Shiratorizawa Week: Found Family
It’s difficult to describe what found family means to anyone. Pets, friends and teammates; family means something different to everyone.
- Ushijima says his closest family, apart from blood relatives, has always been Reon and Soekawa. It’s not just a simple “we’ve grown up together” but it’s more like “these guys have stuck with me through my hardest times.” When his parents got divorced, he ran away from home to them because they were the first people who he thought would understand him.
- While he didn’t necessarily agree with his mum remarrying after his dad died, Semi gave his step dad a chance. His step dad did everything he could to get Semi to like him but in all honesty, it wasn’t as if Semi ever disliked him in the first place anyways. If his mum was happy with him, then Semi was happy as well.
- Tendou’s family is good and all, but the only people he can really joke and have fun with are his teammates. With them, he finds it easy to let loose without regrets; being accepted after rejection time after time almost made him cry the first time he showed off his blocking skills as everyone cheered for him. He never got a cheer so easily from his teammates.
- Shirabu’s family didn’t really have much time for him. Babysitter after sitter moved on all too quickly for him to really get attached, but it was always the other staff at home that went the extra mile for him and stayed. These guys have seen Shirabu grow up more than his actual parents and for that, he’s glad to have had them around.
- Yamagata is basically everyone’s big brother (despite being the youngest third year). While he has three siblings at home, the first years look up to him since he reminds them of their older siblings or cousins as well. He obviously doesn’t mind it
- The team sees the cheerleaders as just as important as everyone on the team. Hearing them cheer is good and all, but behind the volume are the people who’ve given up their time and skills to support them. Knowing that there are people who believe in them so much fills them with so much pride to be at the school.
- Though it’s obvious, the team is such a close family. From sleepovers to trips and matches, it’s this small group of people that have been there for each other through these three years. While of course there’s always disagreement from time to time, it’s these guys who have made their time at school worthwhile.
