Our adventure in London begins now! So this is our humble flat on Crispin street :) perfect size for the two of us. It came fully furnished. Though there is no central air, the weather here is between 55-68 all the time, so we leave the windows open and voila! Also, we got very lucky because the housekeepers come every week to clean :D Everything is nearby, such as, markets, public transit, restaurants and historical sites. A quick hop on the Underground (London's subway) and you can go practically anywhere. Charlie has started his new position this week. It's about a 15 min walk from our flat. On the way is Leadenhall, where Harry Potter has been filmed on several occasions. We would have been excited if we knew this fact before we stumbled across it on accident the other day. We have established a bank account, which seemed necessary to purchase items online and etc. The bank only needed my passport, proof of residence in the UK and the addresses of my residences for the past 2 yrs. Quite painless. Oh but you do have to set an appointment to get this process going. And btw, it will be useful to have an unlocked phone when coming to the UK. So all you have to do is purchase a SIM card and a monthly/pay-as-you-go plan. We went to 3mobile and purchased ours there and had the phone sorted out in the same day. Otherwise, if your phone isn't unlocked, then you need to call your current phone provider before coming to the UK and get an international plan set up. A useful app that Charlie and I have been using to connect with people back home is Viber. It allows you to make free phone calls and send texts through the app by utilizing wifi. One difficulty I have encountered was finding an Obstetrician. I did have the common sense to bring my medical records from the states which made things a little easier and allowed me to avoid a repetition of tests. So if you will be in the UK or wherever for an extended period of time, get a copy of your medical records. Anyways, find the provider through your health insurance website and contact the OB directly. They will be able to connect you with the right people to set up appointments and what not. Also, find out the processes to get your insurance claim rolling. Aetna needs notification almost 5 days before your first appointment, but I don't think this policy is very strict. Charlie and I went to my first OB consultation this Wednesday evening. Success! Time to find a Market that sells Asian condiments and food items.
