"how thoughtful of you." behind the dark tint of his glasses, his eyes are calculating. searching for just the right chink in her armor. "i'm glad to see you've kept your sense of humor. it will be fascinating to see whether that remains the case as your infection progresses."
he could have used any subject for the p-30, but once again wesker is gratified in his choice. in his own foresightedness, in choosing her. (although, he'd be remiss not to acknowledge the way the opportunity had practically -- jumped into his lap, so to speak.)
it would be easy for wesker to simply demand that jill tell him what he wants to know -- her mental state. he'd considered bringing in a psychologist to assess the hidden ways p-30 was affecting her, but decided against it. that would be too blunt an instrument. and he'd enjoy handling this more personally.
i imagine v. will resist to the end, he'd written somewhere in his notes, the day after the implantation, when she was still thrashing on the table, leather restraints rubbing raw on her wrists and ankles. not a reason for concern. i have nothing but time. and like a god's avenging angel, she'd risen again. stronger, better, and loyal only to him -- whether that loyalty came organically or not hardly mattered.
"and how would you describe emotional state?" a careful probe, a neutral expression. "do you find yourself missing home?" do you still remember it?
Of course Wesker needles for more, for the emotional details she'd evaded in her initial response ā and how to answer? There's so much she could say. For as much as he sickens Jill now, even with her jaw clenched at the callous casualty of his remarks about losing herself, there still exists a desire to confide in him. Logic would say it's just the P30 at work, but decade-old sense memory makes the feeling too real.
Wesker and Valentine, alone in a room. The SWAT Captain who built a team like a true meritocracy, and the young professional grateful to finally be seen beyond her sex. The traitor who led his team to their doom, and she who followed him, oblivious to the treachery in spite of their proximity. She is even beginning to look like him. They're fighting terrorism with cutting edge tactics, stars in their field. Now she is an instrument of terror he wields with a heavy hand.
Maybe she was always that. S.T.A.R.S. had felt good ; at least this time around she knows better.
"I've missed home every day for almost ten years now. I watched the missiles blow it to hell from the clearest seat in the house." A true baptism by fire. Determination forged in heat like that doesn't break easily ... but the understanding that she is the scourge that brings the missile to the people of Kijuju is one hell of a cross to bear.
( Often she weighs whether, should the opportunity arise, attempting to kill Wesker or just killing herself would be the more effective option. She still doesn't know. A part of her thinks she knows, but knowing and accepting are not the same thing. )
"Why did you kill Spencer?" Speaking of feelings and home, Jill kicks the focus back to him, trying to wrest some control from the interaction. "It couldn't have been for this," a quick motion to their surroundings, "he lost everything, except that labyrinth of a house. And you seemed just as surprised as we were to run in to each other. What were you there for?" It doesn't add up. Maybe it's a flaw, but if she's going to die here eventually, she'd prefer to die with answers.
