Yaknow how this week is aromantic awareness week and as the name states, is to spread awareness about aromanticism? I have been wearing the aro flag frequently wherever I go, and also have been keeping a small version of the flag on my bag to celebrate! However, I am extremely agitated over just how little is truly known about aromantic people.
The intention of having the flag around was to spread representation of arospec people and to educate others on our identity! And I am very pissed off to know more people recognize the aromantic flag not as what it truly is, but instead this:
Today someone had called my flag a âdreamsexual flagâ and i have never felt more offended.
They took our flag. I donât want to have to constantly worry that people see my flag and think I support a bigot. There is more recognition of this flag as a âdream flagâ than what it actually stands for. This is why more people should be educated about aros. We are already doing what we can to fight amatonormativity and I have never been more furious to have my identity belittled to a âdreamsexual flag.â That is not what aromanticism stands for, and it never ever will stand for that.
So please educate yourself! When you see that flag please know what it genuinely means. It stands for a beautiful community of people who experience little to no romantic attraction. It does not stand for a community of uneducated people stealing flags and supporting bigots. Thank you, and happy aromantic awareness week.
