They say soulmates are the type of people who come into your life to push you forward, teach you things, sent to awaken the parts of you that are no longer breathing. Perhaps that was them.

Having just finished watching the final episode of My Mister, I don’t think I’ve cried this many tears of both happiness and sadness in the span of an hour and 30minutes. This was the kind of love that most viewers wished would go further. I could best express the feeling as standing on the edge of a cliff and tilting forward but never falling.

Ji An’s love for Dong Hoon was true love in itself. You felt her genuine feelings for him that were pure and unexpectant; she seemed to have appreciated every aspect of him. From the sound his shoes made on the pavement as he walked (even I began to look forward to hearing it), to the way he breathed and sighed as he mulled over the thoughts in his head. She would’ve moved heaven and hell, just to make him happy because he deserved happiness, without expecting anything in return herself.

But then Dong Hoon, whose affection and actions were often confusing. He expressed the kind of affection that many would think as romantic love. He felt emotions so deeply and cared for the people around him without limit. He cried when she was in pain and hearing the trauma she went through, he fought for her, kept silent for her, searched for her and protected her. It’s hard not to interpret this as romantic love, right?

I have a hard time formulating his kind of love, but I think it comes close to the Greek word Storgē. This type of love is similar to the kind parents give to children, but in the case of Dong Hoon, it’s also the kind of love one would express to their spouses. 

One thing about his character that I completely fell for was his consistency. Despite the hell his wife put him through, he never failed to ask the one thing that gave indication that he still cared for her: “Do you need anything?” Hearing him ask that during the last episode honestly brought me to tears because this man has been hurt in every way possible but his loyalty and love knew no bounds.

Truthfully, I feel that he did love Ji An, but perhaps not the kind of love that Ji An felt towards him. Or (i’m going with this one) perhaps it was that same love, but due to his character, he wouldn’t pursue it because he was married (or divorced, they left that vague too).

Honestly, he was so intense during the moments that involved her that i was convinced he actually loved her. 

One more thing: The ending leaves a lot of questions. Dong Hoon is happier, brighter, smiling easily at the sight of her. He initiates physical contact and he’s the first to look back when they part ways, something he hardly did before. Many say the translations were wrong and that he did indeed divorce/separate from his wife through the hint of referring to her as ‘his child’s mother’, that explains a lot at the fact that he was so open with Ji An when he saw her; he wasn’t cautious around her at all unlike before. They also intend to meet up for food and that she’ll call him. *hinthinthint* My heart was so happy.

Anyways y’all. I’m not saying the ship is sailing.

So y’all have probably noticed the surge of popularity our cast has experienced since S2 was released. Lucas, in particular, gained an insane number of followers and an overwhelming amount of attention from fans. And while we all joke a lot about it, this shit is getting pretty serious. Amybeth herself tweeted these earlier:

Listen, I really love this fandom and as I’ve told many of my mutuals, I genuinely feel like I’ve found my home after 10+ years of stanning several things… Let’s not ruin it by disrespecting our cast. More importantly, think about how this experience can affect these kids - KIDS!!! They’re brilliant, matured actors but at the end of the day, they need to live their lives as privately as they can. 

I have so much pride for the AWAE fandom, especially the Tumblr stans. I don’t know for sure, but I haven’t witnessed the behavior Amybeth described in the Tumblr fandom so kudos to us. I brag all the time about how peaceful, warm, accepting and drama-free we are and I hope we keep it that way despite the exponential growth the fandom is experiencing. Stay strong, kindred spirits. And call out a problematic fan if you see one.
