how did they learn to translate languages into other languages how did they know which words meant what HOW DID TH
English Person: *Points at an apple* Apple
French Person: Non câest une fucking pommeÂ
*800 years of war*
Fun fact: There are a lot of rivers in the UK named âavonâ because the Romans arrived and asked the Celts what the rivers were called. The Celts answered âavon.âÂ
âAvonâ is just the Celtic word for river.
Fan Fact #2: When Spanish conquistadors landed in the YucatĂĄn peninsula, they asked the natives what their land was called and they responded âYucatĂĄnâ. In 2015, it was discovered that in those mesoamerican languages, âYucatĂĄnâ meant âI donât understand what you are sayingâ

This is gold
hottest language learning tip
write a diary
literally
just write a diary, it has helped me sooo much and i dare say it has been the most developing thing iâve done while learning french, nothing else compares
1. youâre exposed to the language daily
2. you quickly see which words are missing from your vocabulary
3. you learn to write about the things you think about a lot
4. learning to actually think in your target language
5. having to look up words and when reading the entry back a couple of days later you canât even remember which words you didnât know
6. going back to the earlier entries and seeing all the mistakes and knowing how much better youâve become
7. when youâve been writing for a few months and your target language becomes a natural way for expressing yourself
8. when youâve been writing for a few months and you start seeing the diary writing as a way of self-expression and stressrelief, and the language learning aspect becomes natural and secondary
9. filling out a whole book using only your target language and physically seeing how much youâve accomplished

Three simple things we all know
1. Mass shootings are a daily occurrence. We only hear about the most ânewsworthyâ incidents. The Mass Shooting Tracker keeps a log, and itâs horrific to take in.
2. This level of gun violence is completely preventable. We absolutely already know that gun control saves lives, no matter what a politician has told you.
3. The government canât seriously work on this problem because the National Rifle Association will not allow it.
But we should investigate Planned Parenthood some more.

Itâs sad how much of what is taught in school is useless to over 99% of the population.
There are literally math concepts taught in high school and middle school that are only used in extremely specialized fields or that are even so outdated they arenât used anymore!
I took calculus my senior year of high school, and I really liked the way our teacher framed this on the first day of class.
He asked somebody to raise their hand and ask him when we would use calculus in our everyday life. So one student rose their hand and asked, âWhen are we going to use this in our everyday life?â
âNEVER!!â the teacher exclaimed. âYou will never use calculus in your normal, everyday life. In fact, very few of you will use it in your professional careers either.â Then he paused. âSo would you like to know why should care?â
Several us nodded.
He picked out one of the varsity football players in the class. âYou practice football a lot during the week, right Tim?â asked the teacher.
âYeah,â replied Tim. âAlmost every day.â
âDo you and your teammates ever lift weights during practice?â
âYeah. Tuesdays and Thursdays we spend a lot of practice in the weight room.â
âBut why?â asked the teacher. âIs there ever going to be a play your coach tells you use during a game that requires you to bench press the other team?â
âNo, of course not.â
âThen why lift weights?â
âBecause it makes us stronger,â said Tim.
âBingo!!â said the teacher. âItâs the same thing with calculus. Youâre not here because youâre going to use calculus in your everyday life. Youâre here because calculus is weightlifting for your brain.â
And Iâve never forgotten that.
how to avoid education burnout
have 3 achievable goals a day: having a laundry list of things to do everyday is super unrealistic, and you just end up feeling bad about yourself because you didnât accomplish your goals for the day.
leave your sundays open: i love sundays because theyâre my day to chill out and catch up on school work that i wasnât able to finish during the week.
recognize when youâre at your emotional limits:Â forcing yourself to get work done when you are unable to comprehend your study material does not benefit anyone.
learn how to say no: people will ask you for your time and it will stretch you to the limit, whether it be at your job, in your extracurriculars, or in your personal life. know when to step back and say no.
take care of yourself physically:Â take breaks, go for walks, shower regularly, get enough sleep, eat healthy, see your friends
celebrate your accomplishments:Â go out to eat with friends after a big exam, indulge in a night off after a busy week with some netflix and wine
make a study plan beforehand:Â it can be daunting to see how much work you need to put in to a class or task beforehand, but this allows you to spread your work evenly so you donât become overwhelmed.
learn how to ask for help: it is very rare that people make it through school, whether it be high school or university or any graduate program, without needing the advice of others or just a kind soul to vent to. find that person.
never forget your hobbies:Â you will need things that keep you sane. if you love to play music, write, play volleyball, or cook, make you sure you donât lose these things. they will become your escape when times get tough.
log off from time to time:Â it is exhausting to be constantly connected to social media and your email. just physically disconnecting from these for a night to take care of yourself can really help you clear your mind.
Iâd add on top of this, having at least a few consecutive hours off your studies each day helps a lot. Long breaks allow you to fully recharge yourself !
the most relatable thing in the world is when the math teacher writes âhow?â , âwhy?â or just simply â?â on your math paper
Just fucking do it.

Books are a uniquely portable magicâŚ
lowkey obsessed with my dorm // 8.31.16
Habits of successful students
Discipline: âdiscipline is doing what needs to be done, even when you donât want toâ, which means that you have to force yourself to start doing things.Â
Concentration: when you make a real effort in your work (study, homeworks etcâŚ) you will be more likely to actually focus, understand and learn.Â
Organization: always set tasks and goals and organize a study-schedule. Maybe you donât really want to plan all the week, but if you just wake up and open your agenda/bullet journal/iphone calendar and write down all the things you have to do, setting due dates and deadlines, youâll feel more conscious and encouraged to stay on track.Â
Tasks-splitting: sometimes, you write down your tasks. Some of these tasks may be very hard and complicated, and it will take a long long time to complete them. So, you can split them in smaller tasks, so you will feel satisfied after a shorter period of time, instead of studying for hours and still seeing that chapter undone on your study-schedule.Â
Watch the sunrise: when I wake up late, I feel like I donât have enought time to do my work and lose my motivation. I literally panic and then I think âwhatever, I could not complete all the things anywayâ. So, if you wake up earlier you will feel more positive and  controlled.Â
Smart reading: try not to read your textbook just like a newspaper. For every paragraph you read, try to underline and write down key words and then your question about that subject. Literally, turn your textbook into questions. If you write down question - particularly whyâŚ? - and think about the answer, you will be more likely to remember that stuff later.Â
Healthy lifestile: if you donât drink enough water in the morning, you will be more likely to have a decrease of concentration in the afternoon/evening, so: stay hydrated. Try also to have some snaks every one-two hours: feed your brain.Â
Hello, people! The time has come: I will teach you the secret to study for three days and remember everything for your test. This is a hardcore studying session so I would recommend to only do it when you are truly freaking the fuck out. Now, I must tell you: Itâs gonna involve some hard work, so sit comfortably because weâre about to start:
REMINDER: YOU DONâT NEED TO DO THIS IN A ROLL. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE DONE DURING THE Â COURSE OF THE DAY.Â
REMINDER 2: REMEMBER TO EAT, DRINK WATER AND GET ENOUGH REST. YOU DONâT NEED TO FORGET ABOUT YOUR HEALTH IN ORDER TO GET BETTER GRADES.Â
DAY 1
First reading of your main textbook
Second reading + highlightingÂ
Research more about the topic (internet, other books, talk to your friends, etc)
Resume everything (notes)
Do a mind map of main pointsÂ
If what youâre studying needs something to be memorized âword by wordâ (such as: meanings, processes, references, chemical reactions, etc), write it down and put it on your wall. Youâre gonna read it several times during the day.Â
Write down the topics and key words on a reference paper (youâre gonna take this paper everywhere, forcing your memory to expand from those simple key words)Â
Review your notesÂ
Do ten exercises (questions)
Review your notes + exercisesÂ
Watch a video classÂ
Youâre done for today. Good job. Now rest, tomorrow is a new day.Â
DAY 2
Review your notes
Read them out loud
Read them again, but this time record yourself
Listen to it. Twice.Â
Review your notes before bed
DAY 3
Review your notes + listen to your recordings from yesterday
Do 30 exercises (questions)
Review notes + exercisesÂ
Listen to your recordings again
Review your notes one more time.
FANTASTIC JOB! Now itâs your time to rest. If youâre feeling like it, read your notes one more time before bed.Â
One more time, this is a heavy studying session, and not supposed to be done all the time. Remember to take care of your health and take several breaks during the day. If you donât need, there is no need to do everything listed here.Â
Good luck!!!Â
