Ta da! Finding my adult colouring book very therapeutic :)
This used to be me!
South Wales teen 'could not go out' due to social anxiety http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-east-wales-33622033 Social anxiety disorder is much more than being anxious in social situations. For me it took away my ability to do the most basic everyday tasks like food shopping and using public transport. I also lost contact with all of my friends and I was unable to go off to university. It took many years of support from my GP and other mental health professionals to get to where I am now i.e. starting an OT degree in September. As the above article states: "It is one of the least likely anxiety disorders to get better on its own," If you have SA, please don't be afraid to seek professional help. It CAN be overcome in time :)

Adult colouring books are everywhere at the moment. They're supposed to help combat stress and anxiety. I'm going to do a bit of colouring in every night before I go to bed - rather than looking at my phone - in order to relax and prepare my mind for sleep. I'll post another picture when I've finished this one :)

I chose occupational therapy because it blends science and humanism, intellectual rigour and compassion.

The “Reflection” series of older people looking at their younger selves in mirrors. Alzheimer’s prevents new memories from being retained and in many cases, those afflicted are left with memories of their youth.Â
Always Reblog
Disabled people don’t have special needs. We have very reasonable human needs. Our needs include freedom from abuse, violence, and mistreatment, the right to autonomy and self-direction, the right to represent ourselves, equal opportunity for education and employment, the right to accommodation, and societal inclusion and acceptance. The need for accommodation isn’t a “special need”. It’s a basic human right. It’s a leveling of the playing field that allows us the same opportunities and chances as non-disabled people.

Definition of an OT
Calling all occupational therapists. When I tell people that I'm going to study occupational therapy they tend to pull a face and say 'eh, what's that?' I find it difficult to formulate an answer that does the profession justice. If you're an OT or an OT student I would love to hear how you define what you do :)
When “i” is replaced with “we” even illness becomes wellness.

The one Keep Calm poster I can deal with!
Oh my! Even kitties love Occupational Therapy!
I found these gifs I made a while back for a site that’s not running anymore, so I thought I’d post them here. It’s a description of psychiatric symptoms and states of mind using a pink box and some other stuff.Â
These are absolutely amazing. Wow.
This is incredible.
This video just sums up perfectly what an occupational therapist does! Sometimes I forget it myself.Â
Occupation has previously been positively linked to well-being because it fulfills a basic human need to do, provides a sense of purpose, provides a means to organize time and space, and is a medium for the development and expression of identity.
