(submitted on January 24th, 2017 to https://www.whitehouse.gov/contact) President Trump, I cried upon learning that you have put forth executive actions to renegotiate terms for the Keystone XL and Dakota Access oil pipelines. Just as you do not care about a healthy planet for future generations of Americans to enjoy, I do not care about the supposed thousands of jobs that said projects will create (especially because there are thousands of jobs to be had in developing ways to access safe, renewable energy). Just as you do not care about further limiting our access to safer drinking water, I do not care about the sources from which we obtain our fossil fuels. In your inaugural address, you said that you would return this country to "the people." Who are these people to whom you refer? Are they the thousands of people who, despite the horrendous weather conditions, continue to stand up to monstrous corporations to protect their precious land in North Dakota? Are they the young children who face developmental challenges due to the lead-contaminated water that runs through the pipes of too many homes in this country? From what I've observed, your interests solely lie in those who have funded your inaugural weekend, in those who head corporations in which you have previously invested.
