“Dear Gin – Another smash for Rogers – Fred A” – Fred Astaire’s backstage telegram to Ginger Rogers, before one of her 1966 performances of Hello Dolly in Manhattan. “Rogers”, in addition to “Feathers”, was one of Fred’s nicknames for Ginger, harkening back to a fight they had in 1935, during which they did not speak for four days, and Astaire only referred to her as “Rogers” until he delivered a charm to her dressing room, requesting a truce.
