Brian did his best to stay awake and watch out the window but after the morning he was worn out, he was sore and after a few minutes he had fallen asleep against the window, breathing lazily against the glass before Suzy’s yell snapped him awake so hard his knee smashed into the table. With a slight limp he gimped towards the bed, resting his hand on it, “Are you okay?” He asked quickly, rubbing the bruise and masking the sharp pain that was going down his leg like a pro. He sat down on the mattress gently, the weight dipping from his body.

Blue hadn’t moved from his spot at the foot of the bed the entire time Onyx was still in his gem state. The days had begun to blur so he wasn’t sure if it had been a week or two years before the other appeared in front of him. All he could do was stare at the other as he felt the hot sting of tears quickly forming in his eyes and the second he heard him speak the tears where quick to fall. “Onyx…” He mumbles lowly before rushing towards him and wrapping his arms around the other. “I never thought I’d see you again…” He sobs softly against the other gem’s skin. “I missed you…so much….”

When Blue said his name, he saw the tears gather in the other’s eyes. He stared at him before Blue was suddenly in his arms. He wrapped his arms around his shoulders and pressed his face into Dan’s shoulder, smaller then the younger Gem. He felt his Gem press into Dan’s chest and his arms tightened around him more, there was a warmth, an honesty. There was no lie this was Blue. and this was Onyx. A faint glow lit up the room and started to brighten as Onyx felt his gem begin to fuse with Blue’s. “I missed you too.” 

“Damaged.” Blue mumbles a bit as he looks down for a quick second. Onyx was damaged and even though it wasn’t from the crash he couldn’t help but blame himself. Maybe if he hadn’t deserted the other during the war he’d be fine. He quickly looks up at Affei as she continues to talk and he couldn’t help but frown as he looks down at the gem. His friend wouldn’t look the same and it kind of scared him to find out what about him would be different. Would the other even remember him? What if whatever caused the crack affected his memories and not his physical appearance? He nods a little as she suggests for them to head back inside. He gently squeeze it with in his hands before heading inside. Once inside he doesn’t say a single word before heading into his room and setting the damaged gem on to his bed. He’d watch it day and night until his friend came out.

It would take a week and a half for Onyx to bring himself back. It was late at night when Onyx felt himself coming back. The gem flickered and glowed faintly and from the gem his body formed. His legs gave slightly as he settled to the ground before his eyes opened, one having turned a milky white, the other a shimmering yellow. When he noticed the figure at the end of the bed, Onyx’s face twitched slightly as that face brought him back to his past. That last moment that he could remember. “Blue?” He spoke soft.

“I found this.” Blue mumbles a bit as he holds the cracked gem up for his friends to see. “I didn’t think I’d see him again…” He adds, mainly to himself. He wasn’t sure if the others knew who Onyx was or how much he meant to the other gem. “I’ve never seen a crack this bad before..” He chews on his bottom lip more than a little worried over the damage such a crack would cause. “Can you recover from something this bad?” He asks as he draws his attention towards Affei since she was the healer of the group. “Please tell me he’ll be fine…”

Zite looked at the cracked gem and frowned a little, reaching out carefully to take it. Affei took the gem from Zite and rolled it carefully in her palm. “It’s already been healed once. This crack is permanent.” She said softly. “Whoever’s inside is....damaged. But not gone.” She reassured him. “He’ll be back. However long he takes to come back.” She said with a little smile, offering the gem back to Blue. She paused before looking at him. “Blue...when he comes back. He might not look the same.” She reminded him softly, resting her hand on his shoulder. She’d never seen a crack that bad, especially one that seemed permanent.. “Come on, let’s get inside. We can wait for him to come back.” She didn’t know who was inside....but she could see how desperately Dan wanted him back...
