Over the last four days I had the privilege of working in the small (very) northern Ontario town of Peawanuck. Long days were spent at a small medical outpost, but every night we made sure to save some time for exploring (and searching for polar bears). Thelma Bird works with hide, fur and beads to make some absolutely beautiful pieces of clothing at her home and workshop in Peawanuck, a little First Nations community off of Hidson's Bay. Great snow shoe walk around on Sawpit Island this morning. There was plenty of otter, rabbit, fox, grouse, mouse and pine martin tracks, active beaver lodges frozen in the ice, cat tails, tasty moose berries, towering black & white spruce, and Grey (Canada) Jays and chickadees flying about.
