a personal question maximoff should of never asked  but the curiosity had gotten the best of him as always. in a way, he felt very sympathetic since young woman burden herself with much, only to remind him of his youngest sister

rogue shook her head at him. it hadn’t been his fault. she had been young and unknowing. “ sadly it ain’t goin’ t’be the last time a mutant is used fer their powahs. ”

She pulled away and his pulse suddenly sped, a glacial jolt of fear shooting through him. He’d screwed up. Again. He’d screwed up and she was going to leave and then he’d be stuck alone with the cold again. No, it wasn’t rational - for a start, only an idiot would go outside right now and Anna Marie was anything but - but since when was panic rational? “All we gotta do’s pass de time,” he said, forcing his voice to stay level; if he kept letting on how bad he was right now it would just drive her further away. No weakness. No fear. He couldn’t let her see. “Jus’ gotta wait.” And if the storm went too long they’d be missed - or Anna would, at least; him probably not so much - and Ororo and Logan at least would come looking. Right?

That stung. Not just her pulling away, even slightly, but her words. Remy stared up at her for a moment, that shock and hurt clearly visible in his eyes before he closed them tightly and looked away. “Yeah. Sure.” Nothing. Like it had been nothing for her to leave him, back then. Leave him to die. His jaw tightened as he tried to push that thought away. The last thing either of them needed was him starting a fight right now by dragging up the past, whatever his head was trying to do. He straightened, pulling the blanket tighter around his shoulders. “…Storm can’t last f'ever, right?”

He nodded, leaning against her. Ordinarily he would be more careful, more considerate of her own unease with physical contact, but he needed this right now. He needed something tangible, something more solid than simple heat, to keep him grounded. He needed her. At her words he nodded, trying to focus more on her voice than the howling of the wind. “…I’ll be all right,” he told her, trying to force a smile more for her benefit than his. “I been through worse.” But the smile quickly faded. That was precisely the problem, right now…he had been through worse, and the weather and the white-out outside seemed determined to remind him of it.

He glanced up again at the feeling of the blanket around his shoulders, another sensation to pull him out of the memories still trying to surge forward in his mind. She wasn’t leaving him, wasn’t abandoning him to die, they were together, they were inside, they were fine. He wasn’t alone. He had to remember that, he wasn’t alone. God and all His saints, if he’d been trapped out here alone…the thought sent a shudder straight through him. Pride be damned, he couldn’t handle this on his own. Reaching up, he let his gloved hand rest atop hers, trying at least to not look as pathetic as he felt right now. “…Jus’ don’ leave me alone.”

“Fire’s fine.” At least he could keep his voice steady, his eyes going back to the hearth as he leaned a little closer to the heat. It was the best reminder right now of where he was. “Fire’s fine…we’re inside…you right here…” It wasn’t like that frozen hell, no matter how loud the wind howled outside. He wasn’t alone, he wasn’t outside, he was safe and they could call for help once the storm died down. It was fine. It had to be.

He just grinned down at her, unashamed and unapologetic. “Jus’ testin’ a theory,” he told her, reaching out to gently pull her back toward him. “Luck’s made t'be pushed, ma chérie, othe'wise how y'gonna know y'limits?” Though he’d have to tread carefully now; that had been a fairly big push, all things considered. “Sides, ‘f I got'n elbow t'de face, only got myself t'blame, non?” Really, if she had hit him, he probably would have just laughed once the initial moment of shock had worn off. Wasn’t as though he wouldn’t have been asking for it, after all.

Her voice made him glance up, eyes just a touch too wide to actually appear calm. Throw him out? Oh hell no. Honestly that hadn’t even occurred to him, not with how things had been between them recently. “Ain’t worried ‘bou’ dat,” he told her. “Jus’ don’ like de cold…” Or the storms…he’d been stuck in too many blizzards down below the equator to ever be fully calm during another one again.

“All y'gotta do’s say de word, chére, I’ll let go.” And it was true. She didn’t even really have to say anything; he knew her physical cues by heart at this point. If she truly minded, she would have told him. One way or another. Her confession, though, had him laughing softly. “Dat so, hein?” Ticklish? Well, for a girl who never got touched at all, he supposed it wasn’t so surprising. But it was rather tempting to see just how ticklish she was. A mischievous grin crossed his face as one hand slipped down to tease lightly at her waistline for just a moment. It was pushing things, he knew, but hell. Why not. She needed to loosen up and realize she wasn’t going to hurt him.

“Burned hand teaches best,” he quoted the old adage, smiling softly down at her. It wasn’t an expression most people got to see; honestly, it wasn’t even one she got to see very often, as he generally only wore it when she wasn’t looking. “An’ I ain’t gettin’ no closer'n you let me. You know dat.” Just because he wasn’t afraid of what she could do didn’t mean he was going to push her. Remy could read the tension in her body even without his hands on her shoulders. “Relax, chére. Ain’t nothin’ gon’ happen. Nothin’ t'worry about.”

she would be lying if she said she didn’t notice the connections this wintery cabin had to the antarctic. it had been the last time either of them had been together in the cold and the tension only grew between them because of it. it held ugly memories for the both of them and anna wasn’t prepared to deal with them at this time. especially when things had finally gotten friendly between them again. 

“I'mma make them try it first,” Remy told her, chuckling softly. “Dey gon’ learn better'f dey gotta eat whateve’ mess dey make. Give ‘em incentive t'actu'ly listen when someone offers a bit a frien'ly advice.” He shifted a little closer, more to be hopefully reassuring than anything else. Anna kept everyone at a distance, even him…someone had to remind her she didn’t have to.
