I'm always needing new houses in my BACC and thought I would share these this time around. It's a pair of very simple matching houses with a CC version and a CC free version.

Something a little different this time: want disabling mods. I made these for my own game after getting unreasonable wants (for instance peasants wanting to hire their liege lords as their employees) that I found immersion breaking and figured some of you might be interested. Pictured above are my gentry family's servants for illustration purposes. The following traits ( peasant, yeoman, servant and outcast) will not be rolling the following wants: hire butler, hire maid, hire business employee, hire nanny, do homework, learn to study. Special thanks to @heathensimmer for showing me how to disable wants. I did test these briefly, but if any issues arise do let me know, as I am fairly new to the modding scene.

-Ugh! I quarter-tiled the guy on the bike into the wrong spot. Here's a 4to2 conversion of @madebycoffee's four Wasteland deco Sims with Esmerelda's The Beast motorcycle (MTS) that works as a sittable barstool. These deco sims are obviously high poly. Files are compressed, all recolors and a collection file. You can either use items found in the catalog under deco/misc or in the collection section only.

This post is for anyone who wants to rediscover or experience The Sims 2 for the first time and take the leap into using mods and custom content to enhance both gameplay and aesthetics. 💚

This isn't meant to be a complete mods database. The Sims 2 community has already done an amazing job documenting thousands of mods. Instead, this post focuses on the essential fixes and quality-of-life improvements I personally use today. I also made it as a personal reference, so whenever I return to The Sims 2, I can quickly find the mods, creators and resources I rely on.

This guide has been tested on the Steam version of The Sims 2 Legacy Collection running on Windows 11. It reflects my personal setup and is continuously updated based on community feedback to stay as accurate and helpful as possible. 📝 Note: The Sims 2 Legacy Collection (Steam) does not include the IKEA Home Stuff pack.

💎 Before You Start Modding

💾 Always keep a clean backup of your game folder (Documents folder and Program Files installation) as well as your working Downloads folder.

🧩 Install mods gradually and test your game after each batch.

📖 Always read the documentation before installing a mod.

🎮 Always check that a mod is compatible with your game version (Legacy Collection, Ultimate Collection, etc.).

📂 Keep your Downloads folder organized with categories and folders.

📝 Keep a changelog. Write down every new mod you install so it's easier to troubleshoot later.

🧪 Test new CC separately before adding it to your main collection.

🚫 Don't install every mod you find. Choose only what fits your gameplay. If something breaks, the 50/50 method is the fastest way to find conflicts.

🔄 Avoid duplicate or outdated mods. Newer versions often replace older hacks or fixes.

❤️ Once your game is stable, avoid constantly changing your Downloads folder.

Tumblr is the heart of today's Sims 2 community. Most new mods, CC, defaults, tutorials, and gameplay discoveries are shared there first.

TS2 Community (Discord) is one of the most active Sims 2 communities. Whether you have questions, need troubleshooting help, or simply want to chat with other players, it's a fantastic place to be.

Reddit is one of the best places to ask questions, compare different mod setups, and learn from experienced players. The community is highly active and regularly shares useful discoveries, fixes, recommendations, and alternative approaches. Different opinions are common, making Reddit a valuable place to improve your own setup and learn from the community.

I repeat 🤣 : Don't install every mod you come across.

Choose the ones that fit your playstyle.

📦 My Downloads Folder

When I first started modding The Sims 2, I found it overwhelming to search for every mod individually. Downloading the complete TwoJeffs collection made it much easier to discover useful mods and choose the ones that best suited my own gameplay.

I highly recommend browsing through the folder and choosing only the mods you actually need. You definitely don't need to install everything.

💚 My Philosophy

My goal isn't to install hundreds of mods. It's to build a stable, enjoyable game that still feels like The Sims 2.

🎨 My Visual Style

My game has a semi-realistic look inspired by The Sims 4 while keeping the charm of The Sims 2. I mainly use 4t2 conversions, default replacements and Reshade to modernize the game's visuals without changing its identity.

✨ My Reshade Preset

I currently use a Reshade preset that I'm rebuilding from scratch. I had to remove my previous preset "Lobster Thermidor" because of compatibility issues with GShade, so I'm taking this opportunity to create something cleaner and more gameplay-friendly. My goal is to create a preset that looks great during normal gameplay while also including optional cinematic effects (such as depth of field) for screenshots. It's still a work in progress, but I'd love to share it for free once I'm happy with it.

I found these recolors on Slig's DW blog, but they were only available as a default replacement, and I like the originals made by Maxis.

So I extracted the textures and made 3 custom recolors of the "Empeerical" Art Window, from Base Game. Frame and glass are separate subsets.

4t2 Vitiligo Overlay Box

Well this took a while... anyway I was trying to recreate one of my Sims 4 sims in Sims 2 and wanted all the skin details to match up perfectly so I converted the vitiligo textures to Sims 2 in an overlay box.

There are 71 separate swatches, split between arms, legs, upper torso, lower torso, and face. Face textures do work with other overlays. The preview shows multiple different skins and skintones so you can see what they look like. (The one guy is backwards because otherwise he'd be sideways). For the vitiligo textures themselves I used the Tattooer to get the general shape of the textures over and then used a custom tone of Dreadpirate's Party for One skinblend to make sure the details weren't lost on the face. The overlays work on both male and female, ages toddler through elder. There are a LOT of choices (between 8 and 21 for each body part) so I recommend making a note of what you picked in case you ever want to remove them. The box is a mannequin head (using the same texture as the birthmark overlay box because it fit the theme) and is located in misc > dressers.

Back in February, Huge Lunatic went through and reduced the footprints of the extracted Castaway Stories Build Mode Deco. Now, this is great for 2 reasons:

1-tile items are awesome, because they can be placed on OMSP's and in general I find them easier to place.

Now that the Object Limit has been confirmed, 1-tile objects instead of multi-tile items are much preferred as they reduce the number of OBJD's in the game.

And did Lunie reducing these objects to 1-tile save on OBJD's?

REPORT PREGNANCY SIMS 2

This is an old mod, and I found it through some persistent digging. The site was in Russian, and I couldn't tell who created it really except the name in the file "PN"

This mod basically IS PregRel, just in the form of a custom social interaction.

When a Sim first gets pregnant, they can Talk/Report Pregnancy to their spouse or romantic interest.

There are several different outcomes. Positive, neutral, negative, even a "cheat" result, which I assume functions like PregRel. It checks for aspiration, and if the child actually belongs to the father, and I also added a trait check for Dislikes Children, who will always have the negative reaction to hearing this news.

Sim File Share - Filehosting for Simmers

I love using functional food stands in my game and @vixsims 4t2 Catch of the Day is one of them.

To have it blend in better with some of my different playstyles I decided to recolour it. We've got something futuristic, greco-roman and some nordic (viking/ medieval options - If you can ignore some uneditable parts like the modern stove behind the counter, that is)

I had a lot of fun sampling all the different textures. Hope you can use some of these in your game.
