Pretty much from the start.  In Sean’s original story HE is actually the one who dies and I played around with the idea of making Duality a sort of medieval retelling of that story.  If that wasn’t going to happen I wanted something of huge consequence to happen otherwise.

Since Claymore is the only pokemon from Sean original team I decided her death would be a strong catalyst for other parts of the story.  This is also the reason why Claymore had Sturdy ability.

I was very worried about pulling off her death, since you all saw how Sean reacted to it against Robin, and I was concerned I wasn’t going to get a “volunteer” to have their pokemon (and them) viciously attacked in the aftermath.  Plus I didn’t want to spoil it, so I couldn’t just ask around.

My first pokemon Trainer OC was named Electra and she was an NPC in PCBC1 and was in the first round as a competitor of PCBC2.  As I was thinking up her story for PCBC2, I thought up a young guy who she’d meet there and hit it off with by the end of the competition - Sean.

I started to flesh him out and put his team together since she and him were going to go trek around his homeland of Johto and Kanto for a bit.  Then I started to flesh HIM out and how he got the pokemon and so on. 

As a young kid, he grew up in Violet City in Johto and he got a Cyndaquil when he was old enough.  Of course the first thing he did was try and challenge Falkner to a gym battle, which he lost utterly since he couldn’t keep up with something in the air.  He decided to look for a Hoothoot to capture but in chasing one down he gets swept away by a swarm of Drifloon (Much like in his Duality Story).

There he meets Claymore and it’s about identical to Duality until he’s returned home (which thankfully isn’t burnt down).  He challenges Falkner again with Claymore and she wins the match for him easily.  He thinks he’s hot shit but his parents are obviously concerned for him and his time in the wilderness (he IS 10 after all).  They get more suffocating to him than he would like and he’s not allowed to go out on his own to get gym badges until he’s older.  Because of this he starts to act out and be a little rebel.

Eventually he’s allowed to go on a pokemon journey of his own and he gets some badges and a team, but really he has more fun adventuring and interacting with pokemon.  By the time he’s 14 or so he mees Electra and they are together for like a year.  She eventually dumps him because she doesn’t like how he treats her friend (Connor, who is her best friend and he’s possessive of her) and how Sean is a bit of a shoplifter.

He doesn’t like this much and gets pretty pissed off, does some stupid theft stuff and gets picked up by the police and put on juvenile probation.  His ass gets sent back home and he doesn’t have access to his pokemon.  Sean’s attitude plummets and he’s just not a nice kid to be around for a while.  When he finally had enough, he checks his pokemon out anyways and skips town.  He travels around a bit more for another couple of years before he decides to go to Unova.

While in Unova he’s approached by a guy named Dylan who works for Team Plasma and offers him some work as a grunt.  Sean says okay (since he likes pokemon more than people right now) and he starts to work for Plasma; breaking into places and freeing pokemon.

During one where he’s working without his uniform he gets hurt pretty badly and is found by a woman named June who is going to school for doctoring anyways.  He gets the hots for her, etc.  But Sean has always been a magnet for getting in trouble and beat up anyways.

Eventually Team Plasma makes a move to go for one of the orbs so Gheist can get it to N, etc, and Sean is in on the mission.  They pull it off but not without the police being hot on their trail.  When about to get away, Sean gets shot in the back and falls off the bridge, into the river, where he is presumed dead.
