Strange Haunts

Weird find near one of the local haunts! Some burnt up VHS i was finally able to get digitized!

Durham City Baths Durham, England  Built in 1932 to replace the original bathhouse from the 1860s, it’s been abandoned since its closure in 2008 and has been a popular spot for graffiti artists and urban explorers for many years. Despite supposedly having contractors working on the building, they only partly dismantled it in 2019, abruptly ceasing the demolition shortly after when 3 workers turned up drowned in the long-empty pool.

Edinburgh, Scotland  A stone quarry until 1914 and then a military bunker until the 1980s. An unlisted section was damaged by a mysterious underground fire in August 1991 and again in May 1993. Local fire teams managed to contain the blaze and trace it to untamed sections of the facility that had remained hidden for so long but they refused to provide a formal explanation for the blaze. Later the local council would controversially subcontract this work to a private firm who insisted on an extended quarantine of the area due to “hazardous materials”.

The Sunken City Derwent, Derbyshire  An entire village that was flooded to fill the Ladybower reservoir in 1944. Several creepy events happen near the site whenever the waters recede: vines allegedly pulling people into the buildings, the chapel bells ringing despite no bell being present, spectral figures reportedly visible under the water as the water rises to crest the buildings again. There persist allegations that the people of the village were conducting magic rituals at the site. 

Point Ayr Lighthouse Flintshire, Wales  Built in 1776 and decommissioned in 1844. This beautiful lighthouse in northern Wales is said to be home to a ghostly keeper who can be seen on the balcony on foggy mornings. People have even witnessed the ghost’s silhouette as recently as 2021.

London, England  Only operational from 1907 to 1924, this old underground station used to be part of the northern line. While parts of it are used for shops and escape rooms, its not recommended you delve too deep through the claustrophobic passageways. Some overly enthusiastic urban explorers have reported experiencing passages that grow hotter and hotter. 

The Magnus Institute ran educational programs for gifted children and adults. It was founded in Edinburgh in 1818 and relocated to Manchester in 1868. The program was discontinued when the main facility burned down on 24th December 1999. Interestingly, all of the previous hubs for the Institute have either met an ill fate or been abandoned entirely. 🝰
