✶ i was tagged thrice for this so i'll be doing another for tessellate and maybe one for nordhaven. i wanted to start with hallowmire because i feel like there's a really nice journey behind it. this project blossomed during a time where i felt as if i was going through the motions and was a little burnt out. i wanted to push my own boundaries to create something that felt immersive yet magical. fantasy is something i've always wanted to explore but felt intimidated like it was something out of my league. what a perfect time to try something challenging

✶ unlike tessellate, each characters doesn't have a designated color, however, the world itself is where certain color groups pull through. the initial concept was every world would focus on deep greens, browns and a general bronze-y color. from the media i've viewed, brown tends to dominate steampunk colors, so i wanted to add in the green to break up the similar colors to add more depth. i began to run into issues as each world, even with lighting mods, shifts subtly in color as well as details were being lost in the background which was vital for immersion. oddly enough, i thought a lot about dragon age and the dark crystal where there is a lot of changing in environments. i thought a lot about how everything was cohesive yet different. so i started molding my editing to a clear image as well as creating a preset that could bring cohesiveness to a changing world.

✶ Ravenwood heavily focuses on glimmery metallics, jewel tones with that pop of moody and gothic Victorian colors (lmao the color black and brown-). i originally had intended for faded, lower contrast images but too many details were getting lost in the process. also! contrast just makes magic pop! idk how to describe it but the dream-y yet sharp highlights (?) is the signature of hallowmire and the thing that brings everything together!

✶ Innisgreen was was like how in the hell do I add color to this world?? I wanted it to feel magical and otherworldly. I spent a lot of time looking at art. (Here is my art tag on my other blog showcasing a lot of the people I was inspired by.) really trying to understand how certain values were being pulled and how certain color combinations worked in a fantasy setting. I focused a lot on ethereal blues, magentas, and cyans, while the pops of earthy tones brings Innisgreen back to the world.

✶ Forgotten Hollow was so stinking difficult. an actual challenge that took a few weeks and several reshoots. i wanted the exterior to be devoid, sorta dilapidated to represent the true nature of the Immortalis. It's bleak, dystopian and oppressive. While on the inside, everything is monochromatic in rich browns and expensive golds, red is the color that pops, connecting the manor to the Sanguis.

✶ there's a lot more i can dive into for the other worlds LMAOO but i've yapped quite a bit so i'll wrap it up! there are so many edits i was unable to include but i do look back fondly on each of them as well as how i've grown throughout. it's helped me better understand lighting, values and color grading as well as allowed me to grow in my ability to draw! i eventually want to combine both styles without sacrificing clarity so that is my next focus! thank you for reading if you did. you can catch the story here if you're curious ;_; <3

hi simblr, fancy little anti ai tag game?

First, i want to give a shoutout to simblrsagainstai tag created by elderwisp where simmers are sharing their resources and tutorials on editing. This time i want to shift focus on our mindset. I’m going to say obvious things but ai being unacceptable in creative space is also obvious and yet we continue seeing ai generated stuff. Also i am not a skilled editor. I'm just a person with simblr who posts their ocs. I am still learning and my process is slow, so this is a reminder for myself as well.

Let’s think about our endless possibilities as individuals who can do much more than click one ai button to auto generate a “masterpiece” that distorts all meanings of the word “art”, steals your experience and small joys of achievement, a “masterpiece” that will never belong to you. I want to set our mind from “i don’t know how to do it” towards “i don’t know how to do it yet” when it comes to learning something new whether it’s simblr related or not. Entry barrier is much lower than it seems (especially considering that there are so many tutorials waiting for you to grab them). We also need to keep in mind the importance of curiosity that should be our driving force. Let it be your insatiable virus that is constantly asking for more.

You know what should be another fuel? Comparing your oldest and latest work. It is important to highlight: the point is not to say that picture number one is worse than picture number two but to acknowledge once again that the existence of the second picture is not possible without the first one and how once mysterious and scary things slowly became more familiar. Do you remember typing your first motherlode code and buying stuff that was always marked red before? Do you remember downloading your first cc and seeing it in game? Do you remember taking your first screenshots using pose player? Do you remember a bit of power you felt that time? I do.

I suggest rummaging through archives together as a part of anti ai tag game. There are no strict rules. Feel free to post as many pics as you want and write as much as you want or to be a person of a few words and just show those screens! I’m sure all of us have something to tell. I encourage you guys to share your experience and (!) it doesn’t have to be about editing only.

Let me share mine. My posting frequency is a bit sad. I posted raw ts3 gameplay screens (which is totally ok too!) on my first simblr in 2013 and i got more into editing only in 2025 so i didn’t have many screenshots to choose from.

Back then I remember that reshade/gshade seemed like something only tech nerds could understand, photoshop seemed super scary and complicated, srwe seemed like some magical and mysterious tool. Guess what? It took only a 10 minute video to help me understand how to install gshade and get the idea how interface works, then took one evening to look through all shaders to find something cool (need to do that again btw). Watched another short tutorial on installing relight. Then i started my switch from a random website where i tried editing to photoshop. I began clicking those scary buttons, most of them are still scary but i managed to get along with a few of them. Later i started learning how to draw shadows and highlights with a mouse, experimenting with colors, using a bunch of overlays at a time to see what happens. Also watched one random tutorial to resolve the mystery of srwe because i also wanted to keep my pc warm and cozy. I am still struggling, still having doubts before posting and still have a long list of what i want to learn.

some of these have two versions: a regular overlay version and a color version (the color version meaning you can adjust color/opacity using the color sliders mod! useful for those who use alpha color skins)
