Iâm not sure if you were involved in the casting but do you know how Ashley Johnson got to be a part of MSCM? Sheâs one of my favorites:)
At Telltale we tended to do a lot of our casting last minute without a ton of time for a traditional audition process. That means we would typically cast actors by saying "You know who I bet would be good in this role? [insert actor name here]. Send 'em an email." These actors would usually be either folks we had worked with before on other projects or recommendations from other actors we were working with.
So how did Ashley become part of our roster?
Well, back in 2013 when we were working on "Tales from the Borderlands", we needed an actor to play Gortys the robot and trying to cast that part had been a nightmare. We'd tried about a zillion different personalities and ideas and gender flips and just couldn't land anything that worked.
Finally in a last ditch effort we decided to just make Gortys female-coded and as adorable as possible in contrast to the ugly and crude world of Borderlands. But who to cast? Luckily, Troy Baker (who was playing Rhys), recommended Ashley, who he had just finished working with on "Last of Us" and said she would crush it. He was right, and she charmed the pants off everyone.
So when we needed to do some emergency casting on MCSM for Petra we threw it Ashley, and thankfully she crushed it again. And that was that!
Do you agree with the criticism that the Admin's redemption arc was rushed and kinda forced?
Boy, I get a lot of passive aggressive âvaguepostingâ like this in my ask box. You know whatâs funny is if you had stood on your own two feet (even anonymously) and said âI think the Adminâs redemption arc was rushed and hereâs whyâ I wouldâve been much more likely to engage with you because thatâs an interesting opinion and topic I could dig into.
But instead you asked it this way, which is just silly. Because I have no idea what the current discourse is about the Adminâs âredemption arcâ, or the specifics of the criticism, and Iâm not sure where Iâd find it even I did have the time or interest. Also, I have a sneaking suspicion that my answer either way would be captured as a screenshot to be used in some argument somewhere.
So instead Iâll just say take some pride in your opinions, sweet anon! If you want to criticize someone do it directly, because thatâs how we all learn and grow. But do it from a place of kindness and joy. And stay hydrated!
Unsure if this has been asked to you yet
Was the whole "Tell PAMA a paradox" even just ever so slightly inspired by Portal 2?
Also unsure if you would even happen to know the answer but we can be hopeful! Have a good day!
Oh the notion of crashing a computer with a paradox goes way further back than Portal 2. 2001: A Space Odyssey and Hitchhikerâs Guide to the Galaxy are two of my favorite examples, personally.
not gonna ask the typical âwill MCSM come backâ question, BUT!
if Mojang and telltale partnered again to A. Reboot the series, or B. Make a season 3, would you be interested in writing for the game again?
So long as I didnât need to move or upend my familyâs lives to do it, sure! MCSM is still one of my favorite things Iâve ever gotten to write and I would love to return to world in whatever capacity.

There's been a clip posted by Reddit user Adorable_Turnip_4180 claiming to be in the game files of Soren saying, "We didn't do anything to it. We used the fucking command block!"
Is it AI? A joke? They claim it was there because the game was written to be rated T but isn't the f word a little strong for that?
Itâs fake. I donât know why or how someone made it but it is VERY obviously fake. So obvious Iâm a little disappointed people even believe it. Câmon folks; smarten up and use your brains.
Now please stop asking me about this.
You've said Jack was based off Jack Burton/Snake.
But a lot of people think he's based of Chuck norris.
is there any truth to that?
Unless any of those people worked on the game, probably not huh?
love how when i put real effort into my art, it's almost always for a shitpost. anyways here you go

yes excellent very good carry on
What do you think of the criticism people had that Telltaleâs games had generally no replayability? Was it something you factored in when writing Season 2 of MCSM?
I agree with the sentiment, though donât see it as criticism as we never designed our games with âreplayabilityâ in mind. Our most important player experience was the first time playing experience because according to our stats something crazy like 97% of players were only playing once.
Any advice for someone wanting to make a continuation of MCSM revolving around the Admins backstory and what gave them their powers? (Basically anything scrapped about their story that could be used as bg knowledge would be awesome :3)
isnât the fun of making your own story making it up yourself?
look, I donât mind answering peopleâs behind the scenes questions about MCSM and how it was made, but the bigger reason I run this blog after all of these years is to hopefully try and inspire people to tell stories and make art of their own.

MATTHEW MERCER VOICED AIDEN???!??!!?! HOW DID I NEVER KNOW THIS
Haha wild story about that! We did most of the development for MCSM Season 1 in 2014/early 2015 before Critical Role had started so Mercer was relatively unknown outside of hardcore VA / anime dub circles. He was cast as Aiden originally when a bunch of actors came in as a âloop groupâ to fill out the crowd and side characters, and when we decided to promote Aiden to a full villain for ep 5 our producers actually said they wanted to recast him because they didnât know if heâd have the range!
Luckily my then-girlfriend/now-wife Molly was the lead designer on the episode and she had been loving him as McCree in Fallout so she fought really hard to keep him, and obviously he did amazing. We had a voice session the day the first CR episode went up and I remember him saying he was excited he had just launched some webseries with his D&D group.
you know the rest of THAT story, Iâm sure.
Hi!!! Whatâs your opinion on people who self-ship themselves with your characters?
Hereâs a definition if you donât know what self-shipping is: A situation where a person makes an OC (original character) or self-insert and ships themselves with their favorite character aka a fictional other.
Iâve always been curious what your thoughts are on this! I see in it in fanart sometimes.
I think people enjoy stories and media in all sorts of different ways; if that's the way someone enjoys something and it brings them the most happiness then I say go nuts!
How are your kids? Have they played anything youâve worked on?
Ha! Very sweet of you to ask. I've only got the one kid, and he just turned five yesterday so he's very early in his gaming career. And, honestly, I'm trying to very slowly introduce him to games in general.
All he's played so far is Astrobot, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Kirby & the Forgotten Land, and Katamari Damarcy; and even then I put "played" in very heavy air quotes because it's mostly me helping him as he tries his best, heh.
Honestly though, making stuff for all-ages audience is my absolute favorite so whenever I dream of games I'd like to be making, it's almost always more family friendly stuff. One of my biggest frustrations about the game industry is that Roblox and F2P garbage have basically taken over the whole "games for kids" market. I would love to be working in the era of making stuff like Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, Spyro, etc. because, good golly, I think I'd be great at it.
i've always been curious, was build club from the sky city episode a reference to fight club? i just thought the whole "secret basically-illegal club in the basement of an inn/bar" thing felt a little familiar lmao
câmon, donât make me break the clubâs first rule.

Whatâs the thing in female Jesseâs hair? Is it a hair clip or is it a dyed piece of hair (which is seen in lots of fanart lol)
Yes.
When Romeo got a chance to be saved, was he truly guilty for this actions or was he just trying not to die?
Stories donât have correct answers. Theyâre not puzzles to be solved. Theyâre meant to be a dialogue between the storyteller and the audience.
Do YOU think he was truly guilty for his actions? If so, why? Do you know people who disagree? Isnât it interesting how one story can have multiple interpretations?
