Heyy, i was wondering if we could get a sneak peek at the next chapter of Baby Iāll comeback to you? No pressure, just love the story!!!
Anon I'm not gonna lie, I haven't really touched it since I posted the last chapter, but this ask inspired me to go back and reread big chunks of the story and then I cranked out 2k in an hour before dinner :) so here's a nice long sneak peek for you!! Thanks for being patient and sticking with the story!!
Rhaellaās place is adorable, a charming bungalow tucked amongst the sea grass and a beautiful sprawling garden, up on the bluffs with a view of the sea. Sheās waiting on the front porch when Jon gets out of the car, her smile wider than Jonās ever seen it as Ella fights her way out of her carseat, slipping past his hands before he can even fully pull her buckle back.Ā
āGran!ā she shrieks, and Rhaella scoops her up in her arms, twirling her around as Ella giggles. āI missed you!āĀ
āNot as much as I missed you,ā Rhaella insists, peppering her face with kisses. She turns to Dany and Jon as well, Ella secure in her arms. āYou really wanted to deprive me of this, Dany?āĀ
āGods above, Mum, we didnāt book a hotel,ā Dany says with a laugh. She gives her mother a hug and a kiss on the cheek around Ella, who is latched to her grandmother like a barnacle. āThank you for letting us stay with you.āĀ
āAye, thank you, Rhaella,ā Jon echoes. His hands are full with all their bags, but he nods at her gratefully, and her smile at him is warm, like he remembers they used to be. āWe really appreciate it.āĀ
āDonāt mention it,ā she says, ushering them inside. āIām glad to have you here.āĀ
Rhaella shows them around her new place, then they walk down the steep path at the end of her street to the beach, Ella racing after the gulls and screaming with glee as the three adults watch on. Rhaella smiles, nudging Dany. āSheās just like you when you were younger,ā she says. Ella races up to the waterās edge, then backs up, shrieking, as the waves crash on the shore, chasing her back. Her blonde curls whip in the chilly sea air, and Jon smiles, his heart squeezing with affection.Ā
āI thought we could go to dinner at that restaurant in town you like,ā Rhaella says to Dany. She nods, eyes on Ella still. Jon watches her observantly, noting the way her arms cross, the slight tension in her shoulders. He knows being back here brings up mixed feelings for her, and heās determined to stand steadfastly by her side all weekend, protect her from the demons of her past best he can.Ā
And if it distracts him from thinking of his own problems as wellā well, thatās just a bonus.Ā
āJust us four?ā Dany asks, and her voice might sound neutral to the average person, but Jon can see how carefully sheās holding herself.Ā
āRhaegar wanted to come too, if thatās alright,ā Rhaella says. āElia has some friends that came in early for the shower as well, and he didnāt want to intrude on their girlsā night.ā She pauses. āI thought it might be nice for you to see just him beforeā the circus tomorrow.ā
Dany laughs, humorlessly. āYeah, probably.āĀ
āGran!ā Ella calls, turning back to the three of them. āThere are so many shells!āĀ
Rhaella picks her way across the sand towards Ella, before the two of them hunch over the shoreline together, examining the different shells that the surf has washed up. Jon looks down at Dany next to him, her arms still crossed defensively and her jaw just a bit too tight. āYou alright?ā he murmurs again, and she sighs, looking up at him. Her eyes are cloudy, the mix of emotions there displaying her inner turmoil.Ā
āYeah,ā she says, and she goes willingly when he tugs her into his arms, resting against his chest. He presses a kiss to her crown, wishing he could will away all the bad memories and pain from her past, but knowing thereās not much he can do other than hold her. āThanks for coming with me to this shitshow.āĀ
He just squeezes her tighter. āOf course,ā he says. āAnd if you want to escape, just let me know. Iāll keep the car running.āĀ
She laughs, tucking her head under his chin again. āHopefully it doesnāt come to that, but you never know with Viserys and my father.āĀ
Theyāre silent for a few minutes, just watching Ella and her grandmother examine different shells. āHow are you doing?ā she murmurs a moment later, before turning to look at him. āHave youā spoken to them at all?āĀ
Jon sighs. āNo. Neither of them have said anything to me.ā
Danyās quiet for a moment. āYou havenāt reached out to them?ā she asks, and Jon sighs.Ā
āIām not apologizing to them for this,ā he insists. āI donāt need their permission to go to my daughter, and itās fucking ridiculous theyāre acting like I do.ā Dany falls quiet again, her head still tucked against his chest, but he can tell she has something else to say. āWhat, Dany?ā he asks, trying to keep the exasperation out of his tone.Ā
āI donāt think you have to apologize for that either,ā she agrees. āI just thinkā Jon, it kills me to think of you losing them again.āĀ
He sighs. It kills him too, and itās been slowly eating away at him, no matter how much he tries to ignore it, insist to himself itāll blow over, and Robb will call, and everything will be fine. āIf he wants to talk, Iāll talk,ā Jon says. āAnd if he wants to apologize, Iāll listen. I donāt want to lose them either. But Iām not backing down on this. Ella comes first.āĀ
Dany doesnāt say anything else, and he tries to push it from his mind, focus on watching Ella in all her joy, ignore the black pit of anger and fear and despair thatās been steadily growing in him ever since Robb stormed out of that trailer.
