This Bubble Of Light Humming With Music

Wandering around central Havana – briefly stopping to photograph the crumbling facade of an old (and long since closed) cinema – one of the men sitting in front of it started a conversation with us (this happens a lot in Havana), pointing out another abandoned theatre across the street. After telling us a bit about the building he asked whether we'd like to have a look inside, telling us to our surprise that the building had a resident ("he's crazy"), who'd be more than happy to let us have a look for a few dollars. After loudly knocking on a few makeshift wooden doors, said man opened up, standing shirtless in the doorway, with a look of mild annoyance and surprise on his face – "I'm in the middle of cooking", he explained, "though you can have a quick look of you like". As @girlunderglass haggled with the first man about the price for his services (which consisted of loudly banging on a few makeshift wooden doors), a few dogs circling them, I ventured into the incredible and dilapidated building and shot a few photos. If you look to the far right you can see the shirtless man whose dinner preparation we interrupted, patiently waiting to get on with cooking.
