I might be esl and my spelling isnt the greatest but oh my days its not a homophone like 'there, their and theyre', its two different fucking words.

I dont know about america or other counties aside from england. Im speaking mostly to people taking gcse's, now or in future.

I know this sounds obtuse but stick with me here. Dont worry so hard. Thats easy for me to say because ive finished my gcse's for a few years now but really. You arent expected to have an encyclopedic knowledge of chemistry and be able to give an insanely in depth answer. Its your gcse's, not your doctorate. All you need to do is prove you have an applicable knowledge of the subject.

And you might have figured this out, but teachers hype up your gcse's waaaay too much. They'll tell you 'it sets you up for life' and thats like 35% true.

There are so many jobs and opportunities that dont require a 9 across all subjects. Ill tell you what. A 4 in higher maths isnt gonna prevent you from going into engineering the same way 9 wont roll out the red carpet.

I dont mean this in a "aim lower, its easier" way, no. Again, exams prove you have an applicable knowledge of (x) subject. If that equals out to a 8, congrats! If it equals out to a 5, congrats! You have an applicable knowledge of the subject!

And even if you fail exams, all is not lost.

Ill tell you a story.

Once upon a time, i wanted go on an A level course but i got a 3 in english literature and didnt meet the minimum passes to get into A levels. So what did i do instead? I got on a T level course in a subject similar to what i wanted to study on the A level and ive been doing that since.

Im on track to where i want to be in my career and failing english lit didnt hinder that.

And you can retake gcse's at colleges. You can get on a T level without having the grades and you just retake them later in the year as you are studying your shit on the T level. Doing your gcse's in year 11 isnt the make or break moment teachers make it out to be.

I dont want the take away to be 'dont try.' You should try, it'll save you a load hassle in the future but if it doesnt, its not the end.

Dont be like me, i didnt revise for my exams (and still dont as evidence by me posting oc animations instead) and i made it through my gcse's by the skin of my teeth.

(Although to brag a little i was taking higher, still got mostly 4s though.)

And as a side note, teachers LIE about college. After i left my secondary where i was genuinely borderline, college was so freeing.

I literally got fined because i skived so much in secondary, now im a little nerd coz i WANT to go to college.

Ugghhh everything takes so looooong.

I tried something new with the kinda lineless or coloured line art and it looks good but its so long.

Also first time doing lipsyncing, that was a pain in the ass.

Quality is a little poo but i like it.

Again, doing this shit instead of revising for my exam. (Not gcse, good luck tho girls)

The ending accidentally looks kinda suggestive but oh well.

But i see it more in wattpad fics than ao3 or tumblr. Its that 'she walked in the room smelling like smoke and regret.'

They ALWAYS smell like regret.

And the characters speak in this dramatic movie way that always takes me out of it. When in a fic a bit of dialogue plays out like this

"Its weird."

"Good weird or bad weird?"

It takes me out coz it such an indie movie romcom phrase that no real person would say. I hope im making sense when i say this, its not just this phrase in specific but general like fantastical dialogue.

Another thing is (x) character is always 'just... noticing' or 'just... watching'.

I was once reading a fic and this exact scene played out multiple times throughout verbaitm.

'Her expression shifted slightly as (character) spoke.

Not dramatic.

Just... noticing.'

Like fake suspense.

I just hate this style of writing. Maybe coz my own is very humour-reliant and this is so incredibly earnest. I wont say no hate if you write like this coz if i have read your fic and youve employed this style, i likely have monologued to myself in my bedroom about it. You live in my head rent free.

Another thing in the same fic was that the main characters heart kept skipping a beat and her chest kept tightening to the point i noticed and out loud went. "This woman has a fucking arrhythmia, her cardiovascular system is actively shutting down!" And proceded to laugh at my own joke for like five minutes because im vain.

In this style, its often about very cookie cutter tropes. I only read wlw so its always the big strong masc and the teeny tiny weak fem. Which i hate that trope in yuri btw. Genuinely might aswell just write a straight ship coz theres virtually no difference.

Thats not to say that all authors who use the big strong masc x the tiny weak fem trope in a lame way, im sure youve subverted the trope in a very unique fasion and you deserve a pat on the back for your bravery but MOSTLY, when I read it, its so predictable i could make a bingo card and get full house.

I dont want this to come off as (though it probably does) me saying that my style is better. I prefer it of course but it very well may be what someone else hates and theres not anything i care to do about that and i would expect the same amount of investment in someone else. We write this shit for free, its not like we're losing profit for not being someones cup of tea.
