“It’s just such a small part of who Rory is. I don’t see people debating ‘Did she win a Pulitzer yet?”
I’m gonna have to reiterate something emilydoesthething said before. Amy, people make a big deal about it because you made a big deal about it. I mean, Amy complaining she wishes people wouldn’t debate it so much is like JK Rowling saying, “Ugh, why is everyone constantly talking about whether Harry will live or not? Why don’t they wonder how he does on his exams?”
Like…Rory literally had no storylines independent of boys. Maybe in the first season, adjusting to life at Chilton, but that’s pretty much it. The show was written in a way that for both Lorelai and Rory, it’s clear we’re meant to care a great deal about their romantic relationships because they take up a huge chunk of the plot. If you don’t care about them at all there isn’t all that much left of the show for you to enjoy.
And the whole point is that the ‘debate’ of Rory’s boyfriends was unresolved, and not on purpose - people suspect (or even know?) that for both Jess and Logan there was more to their relationships with Rory than was ultimately played out on screen due to various circumstances. So now that they’re both coming back it’s not surprising people want to see how the rest of their story (in terms of both their characters and relationships) were supposed to play out.
As far as whether Rory’s won a Pulitzer…how is that something to debate? Like people are obviously interested in her career and where she’s at/what she’s achieved but it’s not really something that’s ‘debatable’? And it’s understandable that people are going to care more about getting resolution for things in the original series than about things that happened afterwards, that we haven’t even seen yet…
People didn’t want a revival/movie/continuation/whatever because they were just dying to know what the Gilmores were up to after 10 years. They wanted it because they felt the original ending was unsatisfactory and wanted proper closure for storylines and relationships they’d cared about for so long. So it’s not surprising that that’s what we’re all talking about.
