All in all, you could safely say that 2020 is a year that keeps getting worse and worse. Every time that you get up, dust yourself off and knuckle down to getting-on-with-it, some other bit of horrid news kicks you in the guts. All with the unrelenting unpleasantness of The Ronies in the background. The most distressing thing of all though, the thing that pushed all other concerns to the rear, was laying eyes on this sign. It made me want to pop my eyeballs out with my thumbs and throw them in the bin. I had to have few goes at really squashing these ooshies. In the first video, the press is exerting 400 tonnes per square mm and, as you can see had barely any impact. In the second video, the press is exerting 700 tonnes per square mm, with a bit of extra depth on the beam stroke. In the third video, I was all like, "Aah, let's just chop the beggars." The most pretentious word in English has to be "kafkaesque". A few years back, an Iranian friend recommended this book to me while we were talking about Kafka. A couple of years later, while in Georgia, I was telling another Iranian that I was having trouble finding any Sadegh Hedayat. He was kind enough to find and forward a translation of The Blind Owl in pdf format. Unfortunately, I struggled with reading the pdf format. Now after all these years, thanks to good old Book Depository, I have a copy. And it was well worth the wait. Sadegh Hedayat is often compared to Franz Kafka. I reckon he's more kafkaesque than Kafka.
