what's your setup like
M-Audio Axiom 61 Keyboard/MIDI controller, a Mbox 2, Sibelius 7, and Pro Tools 10 and 11.
Inspired by Kim Stanley Robinson’s novel Red Planet
In the novel, the Martian colony at Noctis Labyrinthus creates an aeolian building to take advantage of the year-long dust storms that rage across the planet. As the wind passes through the building’s holes, musical tones are created that combine in, “mournful, angry, dissonant, or, in sudden snatches, harmonic" ways.
I’m not sure if this is exclusively in either the classical or film music style but it doesn’t matter; this is exactly the sound I was going for.

I premiered a piece of mine earlier today and got a great reception. One older lady told me that I got her to look at the piano in a whole new way because of the extended techniques I used. Also the concert’s moderator immediately latched on to the composer I used as a model, George Crumb.
Fantastic interview with Hans Zimmer covering everything from approaches to composition through key moments in his career and opinions on the significance of musicians and orchestras.
I love this score simply for it’s size, never mind the fact that it’s an awesome piece.
Who are you favorite film composers?
Bernard Herman, Hans Zimmer, Michael Giacchino, Alexandre Desplat, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (as a team), and Ennio Morriconebut if I had to pick one it would be Desplat at the moment.Who knows what it will be tomorrow.(I also really love Marc Streitenfeld’s Prometheus score but I haven’t heard enough of his other work to say he’s one of my favorites.)
Musical Humor
C, E-flat, and G go into a bar. The bartender says, "Sorry, but we don't serve minors." So E-flat leaves, and C and G have an open fifth between them. After a few drinks, the fifth is diminished, and G is out flat. F comes in and tries to augment the situation, but is not sharp enough. D comes in and heads for the bathroom, saying, "Excuse me; I'll just be a second." Then A comes in, but the bartender is not convinced that this relative of C is not a minor. Then the bartender notices B-flat hiding at the end of the bar and says, "Get out! You're the seventh minor I've found in this bar tonight." E-flat comes back the next night in a three-piece suit with nicely shined shoes. The bartender says, "You're looking sharp tonight. Come on in, this could be a major development." Sure enough, E-flat soon takes off his suit and everything else, and is au natural. Eventually C sobers up and realizes in horror that he's under a rest. C is brought to trial, found guilty of contributing to the diminution of a minor, and is sentenced to 10 years of D.S. without Coda at an upscale correctional facility.
(I didn't make this up.) Yes it's slightly cheesy but that's what music jokes are.

Found Sound
Hi guys,
I just wanted to say that if any of you are interested in exchanging found sounds, I'd love to chat. I have some pretty cool ones that I think someone who's good with found sound could do some great stuff with.
Or if you work with found sound at all, it would be cool to just talk about workflow and your process. Found sound is something that's almost completely new to me and I'd like to learn a lot more about it.
