I just finished my shift, and Iâm home after trekking through another snow storm.  I had a pretty decent night at work, believe it or not. This is one of the rare nights that I had a peaceful, drama free night in the office. I told my coworker about my blog and she was totally here for it. She understands me.  We are both dealing with the same type of office environment which includesâŚ
I work as an operator in a hospital. Our primary job is locating on-call staff for emergencies after hours. Basically, if someone has a medical emergency in the middle of the night, and comes to our hospital, we are the team that is responsible for getting the emergency staff to the patientâs side in a timely manner. I take my job very seriously. Itâs kind of a rush to know we play an important role in saving lives. So you would think that there would be a sense of pride in my office amongst our staff, but let me tell youâŚ
Itâs like junior high school all over again. You know with the troublemaking Crystals, and the Brittanys, and HeathersâŚyes those bitches. You wouldnât believe the mess that goes on in my office. None of which I am a part of because I choose to be a neutral party and not get involved with office politics.
I have personal financial obligations and college loans to repay.  I have to have income coming in. I chose to work at the hospital for the scheduling flexibility and it pays pretty decently.  I walk in, put my blinders on and work my shift. When the nightâs over, I take my blinders off and leave. Simple right?
Of course not. The Young & The Restless dramatics is always on. Someone is always upset, or not being treated fairly, or not getting along, or needs to be confronted. I donât know why, but everyone then has to weigh in on whatever the situation is. I get along with everyone so I donât personally have issues with anyone. Some of them donât get along with others so there is constant conflict. Is it like this at every job?
At home, I have a seven-year-old that hates math and cries every day when she has to do math homework. That energy alone is too much. My husband may call me to shoot the breeze, but then he starts yelling at people who annoy him at work and his mood is sour for the rest of the day. I have enough shit going on at home.  It canâ t be like this everywhere I go. Am I attracting this indirect disharmony?
The one place where I can count on to occasionally get a break from home is at work. Itâs overnight, everyone is asleep, and no one will really miss you. But then you get to work and as soon as you walk in the doorâŚ
We should all just be thankful we have jobs. Meaningful life-saving jobs, that pay our bills and allow us to live. Life can be hard sometimes. I have seen and been through some shit too. But I have so much more to live for and work for.  The most important aspect of my job?⌠It finances my expensive ass hobbies. This is where my creative juices flow.  Work to me is just work. Itâs applying skill required to do a job. I try to keep my emotions out of it. Life is my family, my health, my food, what I create.  I approach work and life differently.
Every once in a while I look at these vacation pictures of my toes in the sand and my family in our SUV. I do this for visual motivation. This is what we âliveâ for.
I wish everyone else would do the same thingâŚ
