I am not Tumblr proficient so this is my first time trying to do this kind of thing, but I have several things coming up that I have planned for this story so I realized I think I really wanted to make and pin a post that will have links to all my floating Come Home Safe Extras. (plus easy to find for anyone that finds and follows me later and wants to read all of it)
About Me
My name is Kat, 32 years old, She/Her.
My physical Condition: I have a chronic illness called Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome where all the connective tissue in my body is defective and has an elastic consistency instead of strong and supportive. Lots and lots of things go wrong with my body because of the defect.
My Hobbies: So for that reason, I spend 90% if not all of my time in a specialized zero-gravity chair writing (mostly fanfiction but I have in progress original works, too)
Commissions: I have some major changes happening in my life and I'd love to try doing some? Art / Writing requests both are accepted. I have never done one before so please be very patient and clear with your request! I get easily mixed up!
Chat / Conversation: This might be a bit pathetic but truth be told, I really am always looking for new friends (I am currently going through some hardships in life)! Please reach out any time in messages to start a conversation with me! I'm very passive and love engaging conversation!
Writer and lover of all things anime / video game

Until hope shows up in a very unexpected way.
But who knows what a little hope will actually cost.

What would you consider your favourite dynamic to write? And which goes most sideways while writing? Is there some dynamics you are especially excited about? đŒ
God there are so many dynamics that I love!
Overall, I really like dynamics that heal each other, no matter how that may be.
My absolute, above all else, favorite kind of dynamic is aggressive / cold character has soft spot for single person, but no one else. Every time I meet a person or character with an atypical exterior by being either overly aggressive and short tempered, or blunt and cold, I can't help but think there's always more under the surface and wanna stick them with a character that, whether intentionally or not, can bring out all the other emotions they're trying to keep buried.
Parasite (My Hero Academia), Good Luck Kiss (Jujutsu Kaisen), and Devourer of Time (Bungo Stray Dogs) are some of my stories that focus more on that dynamic. It just makes their interactions so special!
My second favorite dynamic is definitely the star of Come Home Safe and is the caretaker x person who's never been cared for. As a person who has extremely high amounts of anxiety in real life, this trope always reaches my soul in a way others don't. The only reason it's my second favorite trope is because sometimes, most of the time for me, they are entirely green flag from beginning to end and I only like to bring in conflicts that don't escalate into harsh words or regretful actions / comments, because the relationships, for me, center around the safety they both feel.
Come Home Safe (Kaiju No. 8) and Diary of a Dead Girl (Kuroko No Basuke) are my primary examples of this trope.
**Fun fact - Diary of a Dead Girl was the last major story I wrote before my diagnosis and when I reread it, I can tell that I personally was struggling with my health and giving up, whereas Come Home Safe is the first story post diagnosis where I finally started healing. I like to reread them sometimes and remember where I was at when writing them.
Honorable mention tropes that I love to include in my stories even if they're not the focus (but sometimes they are):
Lonely awkward nerd x happy chipper overly loving soul.
Love love love this one so much. This is one of my fallback dynamics I love to write but it is at the main in Castle of Glass (K Project). It's similar to the first dynamic that I listed but what makes it so special is when the nerd realizes they like the chipper partner enough they begin to start stepping out of their boundaries again but always while making silly cute goofy faces.
Toxic a + Toxic b = slightly less toxic ab
I secretly love this one because its always just utter chaos. This is almost always what I write my chaos characters into. When you have a character is cool but have some serious issue and morally questionable traits and they meet another person who also has some questionable traits and seem like they would be really toxic match but end up bringing the better out of each other. This is definitely what I was going for with Cece and Narumi in Come Home Safe.
(Also I super duper love enemies to lovers as a dynamic as well but I'm bad at writing it cause I just wanna rush to healing aspects and tend to never make them real "enemies")
POWER COUPLE
I'm including this last even though it's a number 1 favorite because for me, it overlaps with many of the above dynamics. But it's the reason why I prefer writing fics that don't just stop at "getting together". I love love love LOVE when you have two strong characters who seem almost untouchable but go feral if you touch their partner in battle, but then also turn into absolute puddy for the other when they're out of battle. Heroes need love and rest, too. I truly wish that more writers would integrate battle and romance themes together.
I know there's more but that was a decent sized rambling <3
Unfriendly reminder that if you're displeased with a piece of fanfiction your courses of action are:
Read something else
Bitch PRIVATELY to friends
Write your own take on the premise (strongly recommend!)
All of the above
Under no circumstances should you try to "politely" critique the author who put the story up as a hobby. For free. Especially if the story in question is multiple years old. Ao3 is not Goodreads
Especially 2. Sometimes people take this as "they're not allowed to have negative opinions about someones work" but they are. And absolutely talk privately with friends about those things you dislike.
But some of us put our entire SOULS into our stories. Even if it's just a hobby, it can sometimes also be the one thing a person is desperately holding onto in their life and are terrified every time they hit the upload button.
Some of us still write fanfiction because it's the way we feel our emotions and not simply because we want a bunch of people to like and follow us.
But I too run across things on the internet that I sincerely hate and I go whine to my buddies and don't post it on the internet where it's going to hurt people.
Please remember writers are people and not word-producing-machines.

For the first time ever I will use the ask button on tumblr Tehehe
So my question to you! Who is your favourite OC next to our beloved Stelly of course?
And who do you love to write the most? :3
Who is your favourite OC next to our beloved Stelly of course?
<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
Cece mother fucking Undergraw.
I tend to use the same tropes for characters across all my fanfics and my main OC always has a foil chaos character that I love to play with. Cece is that role in Come Home Safe for me. I love using her as a plot device to throw some fun and comedy in while her tendancies as a foil help me to sometimes bring out new parts of Estella herself.
Like Cece has always been that little key in the lock of Estella being "more herself". She eggs Estella on to push her boundaries and give her honest feelings. Even if its by somtimes extremely cruel means, like, oh say... deleting all her pictures with Hoshina.
Their relationship draws a lot of inspiration from Wilson and Dr. House.
Character Concept
So here's a shocking truth - I as much as I love to hate on him, I also really like Gen Narumi as a character and his rivalry with Hoshina. I truly wanted a way to force these two into more fun and interesting interactions. That is where Cece was actually born. I thought: "They'd have to spend some awkard time together if their girlfriends were great friends." But Stella has such a passive and laid back personality that I couldn't imagine her pressuring Hoshina to double date with Narumi like ever. (Especially cause of Stella and Narumi's relationship, neither of them want to hang out either.)
So I needed a character that wouldn't give a fuck about that awkward tension.
From there, I let the dialogue and story develop around Cece as I continued to write and she took on a life of her own. I got inspired by little tropes along the way I liked for her character. Things like how she'll subtly make snide comments in another language just to get under one's skin as well as her fun habit of bullying her own boyfriend just to see how much she can get away with.
For all of these reasons, Cece is such a fun character to play with and bring into any scene. I genuinely enjoy writing characters who are ridiculously complex like her. She's a deeply flawed individual, yet her heart is always in the right place.
Fun fact!
Cece is meant to be a slightly more flawed version of Hoshina in the same way that Estella is a slightly less flawed version of Narumi. I.e. Cece really like to get a rise out of people to the point of doing some extremely questionably moral things. Estella is a huge gaming nerd, but keeps a healthy balance of it with her responsibilities. (Though no one needs to bring up how similarly competitive the two sound when gaming against each other...)
I would say that I also probably like writing her the most, too. But there is another OC I'll talk about more specific to the writing for that second question.
And who do you love to write the most?
I just wanna talk about my quiet love of this OC, too <3.
Yota Yoshio.
From the very inception of Come Home Safe, I knew that this story, while still being concentrated on kaiju, would have heavy medical / anatomical scenes so I always knew that Stella was going to have her own doctor. That has to do with the fact that, in real life, that's what those with Connective Tissue Disorders need, a doctor that has capacity to go above and beyond because it requires such a deep understanding of so many different systems. He once again was a key part of my 'living the fantasy of if treatment for this condition was possible'.
But he quickly became something more than that. When I got my first idea to make Stella a custom suit, I knew it would only be beneficial if the person making the suit had a thorough and in-depth understanding of her condition as well. Thus the team of Yoshio, Okonogi, and (even though he wasn't yet named) Miyazaki was born.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of giving just as much credit to the people who work behind the scenes and get no recognition (the monster cleaners, operators, izumo tec weapon builders, ect.). For that reason, I knew I wanted to create OCs across all of these different spaces where there weren't characters, as well as utilize more characters like Okonogi and highlight more of what they're always doing.
However Yoshio was always meant to be a counterpart to Okonogi. I just fell in love with the idea of Hoshina and Estella both having their own personal aids during battle who also worked flawlessly with each other, as well as have some deep emotional tension and involvement with each other.
He is also heavily inspired by one of my own personal real life physicians who goes out of her way to take care of me like family and not treat me like another patient. Yoshio walks the line of good doctor / being too involved with his patient, but again, I wanted to explore the fantasy of if everything was just perfect to allow someone with a CTD to function to the best of their abilities.
His dry humor in the face of Estella constantly injuring herself and being reckless while Hoshina frets and worries, often times winds up being my favorite comedic point in tense situations.
Beyond that, his main role for the story is to also be a foil to Hoshina when it comes specifically to Estella. While Hoshina has decided to support and encourage Estella in being a soldier of the Defense Force, Yoshio prioritizes her health and sometimes says the things no one else wants to hear. He constantly makes himself the devil's advocate, reminding her that she has limits she has to acknowledge, but meanwhile, deep inside, he's rooting her on just as Hoshina is. Personally, I feel that Hoshina can only be as supportive as he is because Yoshio is there and blunt about her health. He trusts that Yoshio will speak up when something is simply too much and too dangerous for her.
Yoshio also has a huge hunger for knowledge and problem solving. The entire reason he met and befriended Miyazaki is because of that (He was the only guy in class Miyazaki thought could keep up with him for group projects and wouldn't drag him down.)
I'm excited for everyone to see more of these two characters and the amazing things they're going to do this arc!
Something you never want to hear your physiotherapist say:
"Focus on your breathing for a minute, I don't think we're gonna be friends anymore after this."
My EDS has caused my tissue to get so dense that my ribs haven't moved individually in years; my entire torso is this cement block. She's trying to break it up so I can get functionality back to my ribcage...

Estella finds out from the other trainees how poorly Reno's training with No. 6 is going and it has her worrying more and more about Hoshina using No. 10. She decides to go talk to him only to find him already wearing the suit.
Chapter Preview
Stella: Our efforts last night were not in vein. Leaderboard came out. We beat Captain Dumbass by 27 points. Just a heads up, I told him it was all you so heâd be extra spicy about it.
Shi-Shi: perfect. True or not, I donât mind him thinking Iâm ruinin his day. But I only contributed like 7 of those points.
Stella: Yeah but imagine his face when he thinks that youâre starting to get better at gaming than him. Itâs way more effective to drive him nuts by letting him think youâre the one beating him.
Shi-Shi: Alright. One day Iâll beat him at his own game, literally.
Stella: Oh absolutely. But more importantly... I think Iâm gonna come your way after practice this morning. Is that okay with you?
Shi-Shi:Â only if you pay the toll.
Stella: Oh I am so prepared to pay the toll.
When Hoshina put his phone away, he was wearing a bright smile, excited that it was going to be another good day after a couple of weeks apart.
Estella, however, was not as chipper as the Vice-Captain. She closed out of her chat with him and swiped open the group chat she had been in the middle of as well. She was sitting in a small enclave on break from training with Cece and Domino while wearing the furthest thing from a smile.
Her chest felt tight with emotions she struggled to process.
The group chat on her phone was with the other trainees from the Third Division that had all been scattered across the Eastern Defense Force.
That was the conversation weighing most heavily on her mind.
Iharu: Guessing you guys already heard about Reno getting to wear the No. 6 suit, right? He spent a few weeks prepping and just yesterday he tried to put only the gloves on. It knocked him out cold and he still hasnât regained consciousness.
Izumo: Holy crap. Those Numbered weapons are no joke.
Aoi: Thatâs exactly the reason why they typically only let users with extremely high compatibility ratings even attempt to wear them. Them considering Reno is a huge compliment to him and his hard work.
Iharu: Yeah, but... it feels like this is too much, asking him to do this. I wanna support the dude, but... itâs so brutal to watch...
Stella: and No. 6 isnât awake, right? Thatâs just the physical toll of wearing it?
Iharu:Â Of course itâs not awake!
Izumo: what a wild thought. Having to resist a numbered weapons influence physically and mentally?
Aoi:Â Could you imagine?
And now Estella was just watching the group chat fill with commentary of how crazy that would be and comparing it outrageously challenging feats like taking a state exam with music cranked to full volume in their ears. With each one, her heart sank a little more.
Unlike the news with Reno and No. 6, the news about No. 10 being weaponized had not been made public, mostly because none of them had any idea still if it would even work.
So her fellow trainees had no idea they were crushing her spirit with every new message. Now that she had the context of Renoâs struggles, she wanted to talk to Hoshina more about this. It was his decision at the end of the day and she knew and respected that.
But she wanted to tell him that she was starting to get really scared over this.
