still trapped in this abandoned onion field

like owen i feel he grew up in an incredibly neglectful environment and was left unsupervised on the internet. and then got groomed into self harming and posting it online and learned he could receive validation and sympathy by harming himself or filming others harming themselves which is why he has no complaints about matt's plans. i don't think he actively desires violence onto others, instead he realizes the opportunity of capturing it and views harming himself as the most ethical way to achieve this because he's not hurting anybody else. and i suppose you can interpret this as "cutting for attention" but imo its harmful to minimize any self harm at all because no matter the motivation for it, its still indicative of poor mental health. is my take on it. anyways

jared's a year below matt and owen so he's 15/sophomore anyways matt saw the potential of having someone dedicated to filming them. and convinced jared into following them around with the promise that it would help jared blend in more but in reality its' just. he's still a freak just now within a group of freaks. and matt absolutely bullies him and tries to steal his camera to redirect shots and asks about his scars etc which jared hates but he likes the feeling of being included and can pretend that he actually belongs and that matt and owen care about him

owen tries to stop matt from bullying jared, a little bit because he feels bad but mostly because he's genuinely scared of jared and thinks that jared will eventually do something really violent back

anyways. it absolutely breaks me that matt and owen never acknowledge how fucked up it is that jared is completely ok with the plan and is desensitized enough that he follows just a few feet behind matt but the camera still shakes each time the gun goes off
