Just one year, that's all it took for Rudy to finally reach a point where standing up was no longer viable. He saw it coming, everyone saw it coming, he was prepared for immobility, nobody was planning on him losing weight, so as he laid back on his bed, having taken the last steps for the rest of his life, he asked for a round of barbeque with an accepting grin.
Everyone knew Rudy would continue steadily putting on more weight with time, it's not like losing his ability to stand up made anyone stop enabling him, so they kept the young man well fed, and more often than not, stuffed.
What they were not prepared for, however, was just how much his weight gain suddenly began to accelerate.
Rudy was always huge, but the people closest to him were noticing his body now grow visibly fatter just after a week. People who now visited the farmhouse once a month or two would have to hide their looks of shock as the retired farmer blew up so much more than the last time they saw him.
Maybe it was the fact that he was no longer wasting a single calorie anymore, maybe it was the fact that he no longer had anything to distract himself from eating every waking moment. Rudy had a severe food addiction his whole life, and instead of putting an end to it early on, it was never addressed, instead going through 27 entire years in an environment almost perfect for it to develop into an issue that, clearly, had gotten too bad, and it now meant a critical point of no return for Rudy.
Now that he was bedridden, he began putting on twice as much weight as he did when he was still working in the farm. Then, just some months later, he was now gaining three times the amount of weight.
Turning him on his side was an effort that every member of the house had to put all their might into, and even if Rudy was becoming so dependable, everyone still loved him just as much, he just needed to be looked after a lot more now. He just kept being let to eat to his heart's content.
And eat he did. Not a mere thought passed through his mind thinking about how big he'd get if he kept this up. It was simply a routine, growing even more morbidly obese and hungrier was just part of his life ever since he was born. Sure, he was a bit taken aback on just how much bigger he was getting now, but it still felt normal, somehow.
At first he tried to keep his diet just as usual, but there was just so much free time now... what was he meant to do? Stare at the walls for hours? He would speak with his brothers or whatever visitor came by, but there were still so many hours between his days where he usually spent working at the farm, and it seemed as if his stomach was equally bored, as his hunger adapted accordingly to the change and begged to be fed even more often.
Everyone around him now realized just how big Rudy would be getting in the future, but even those mental images they made in their heads wouldn't even come close to the mountain of flesh Rudy was heading into becoming with the accelerator pedal now fully pressed down.
