there was a pause, brooke (maybe shitfaced) so grateful for him it made her heart flutter.

brooke: i'm pretty sure i love you, mark.

mark: i love you, too, brooke.

brooke: mark...

mark: it's okay, brooke. paolo was just leaving.

paolo: c'mon, don't act like you weren't into it. you always were.

brooke: wh-

mark: i said go before i kick the living shit out of you. i'll make sure to see you out myself.

brooke watched in awe, relieved mark hadn't been upset with her and even more relieved the see paolo storm off. no guy had ever stood up for her like that.

brooke didn't have time to process. though it was rare, she found herself unable to speak. it was perfect timing for mark to come back from the bathroom.
