Jun's heart hammered against his chest as he followed Mal. This felt unreal, like stepping into someone else's life. He couldn't tear his eyes away from Mal's naked body, the way his muscles shifted with each step. Mal wasn't shy, not like Jun would have been.
He couldn't imagine it. Back at base, even in the communal barracks, he'd changed quickly, facing the wall or in the corner, always conscious of his exposure. But Mal was just...like that. The confidence of this man! Or maybe it was just utter carelessness. His eyes kept catching on Mal's shoulders, the curve of his spine as he walked, the swing of his hips. Each glance sent heat pooling in Jun's stomach.
"H...hot," Jun muttered, reaching for his bag and rummaging through it for his towel, doing everything he could to avoid looking at Mal again. He pulled out his soap, set it on one of the nearby shelves, and peeled off his jacket, followed by his shirt. The air hit his bare skin, and he could feel his face flushing again. He was always like this. Too aware of his own body in front of others. But this? With Mal right there? It was unbearable and intoxicating.
He hooked his fingers into his pants and pushed them down, his boxers quickly following. He stepped out of his shoes and stood there in front of Mal, feeling more exposed than he ever had. He tried to keep his expression neutral, to pretend he wasn't totally overwhelmed by being naked in front of someone he...liked. He was just trying to keep up, right? Playing along with whatever game Mal had started. Except Jun's version of 'playing along' was making him feel like his entire body was on fire.
Jun grabbed his towel, hanging it up quickly, and reached for his soap again. "Why do I get the feeling you were really looking forward to this? Is it what you pictured?"
mal was never lacking in confidence. maybe it's because after spending so much time on the ranch, he's never really had to be concerned with what people thought of him. so he kind of just worried about what he thought. after all, he can't control how other people look and view hi. so why not just focus on himself?
he smirked as he heard the stutter and nodded his hea. giving the other quite the show as he turned the knob for the water. he made sure it was hot, but not exactly burning hot. the water leaving a pleasant warmth. when he turned around, he was met with quite the sight. those fingers digging into the other man's pants and pulling them down.
and for once? it felt like their roles had reversed. mal's eyes were taking in the other man's body and he was left speechless. his cock doing the talking for him though as it twitched as he took in the rather beautiful view of the other man. "wow-uh-you look really good man." for once, it was mal who was left stuttering. heat pooling underneath his tan cheeks. hopefully the other didn't notice it, because the last thing he needed was to go from cool and sexy guy to blushing virgin.
taking a few seconds to get his own soaps, shampoo, and conditioner organized gave him some time to collect himself. mal's body almost pressed against june's as they were putting their stuff on the shelf. "you found me out," he says with a chuckle. he lets his eyes roam up and down before settling on the other man's face. "i promise you. it's much better than what i pictured., darling"
"You're really nice. Unexpected." Tucker said a cant of his head like a curious cat as he reached out and took Alex by the hand, pulling the other along with him, not giving him much of an option. "Great let's go get a drink. Do you read books? Well. Can you read I suppose is a better question? Or did you pass high school by just being good at sports. I'd say...football based on your size. Lacrosse maybe? I bet you were prom king? You seem like you would be. I'm Tucker by the way."
alex tilts his head as he looks at the other. "do i look mean or something?" the himbo asked curiously with a look of pure confusion on his face. alex didn't fight as the other took him by the hand and began to drag him along. "i can read," he says with a chuckle. "now finding a book that's not going to bore me to sleep? that will be the true challenge." he says with a nod of his head. "and i'm alex. nice to meet you." alex says with a big smile on his face as he followed after the other, not trying to get the other to dislodged just yet. quite enjoying the hand pulling him along. "are you always this bossy?" he asked with a grin.
"Flattery is typically characterized by it being empty and baseless. You are just attractive. Tall. Blond. Muscular." In fact Alex looked like the kind of man that Tucker would have avoided altogether before this. Beautiful but empty headed- well he would have assumed the other was empty headed. Tucker thought most people were dumber than him. Being in the mall had made him less cautious socially, and also a bit nicer even if that was hard to believe.
"I think I would be considered cute. Pretty might be a stretch. Would you like to get something to drink?"
alex's cheeks only got darker the more the other complimented him, although it was obvious he liked it with how he was practically preening under the attention. "i think that's no stretch at all. just fact." alex says with a nod of his head. still, when the other asked him if he wanted to go grab a drink? alex's lips widened into a smile. "and here i was about to go to the club." he jokes. "yes, i would very much love that i think."
Jun was pretty sure he knew what this was. A stupid little game for Mal to play. Make Jun uncomfortable and have him back off so Mal could feel like he won. That was all. Even though...there was this weird little voice in Jun's head, asking what if he meant it. No. No way.
This was Mal. He liked to mess around and flirt; it was probably how he dealt with...all this. Whatever. Jun couldn't help the small laugh that escaped his lips, shaking his head as he matched Mal's teasing tone. "Careful now, that ego of yours might take up the whole shower stall. I thought this was about saving water, not feeding that head of yours?"
He had never heard anyone call him handsome before, at least not to his face. He had always been told he was too quiet, or too reserved. Mal had to be joking. Just because of how Jun reacted when he touched him. His face went hot as he started walking faster toward base. If he was stuck in here any longer, with no escape and no real job except being on standby, he might actually start to think about all this.
Mal had been outside and dealing with all sorts of crap; he probably needed this to blow off some steam. That had to be why he was acting like this. Yeah, right, it had nothing to do with how he had looked at Jun before he shoved him.
When they got back, Jun found his assigned area. A little cubicle in one of their former shops. He tossed his bags down before he realized Mal had followed him. "Do you..." His throat tightened. This is stupid. Stop it. He is just teasing.
"...You can put your stuff in here too, if you want. I don't care. Let's go," Jun said, gesturing down the corridor. "Shower's this way." He turned before Mal could respond, his footsteps echoing slightly as he led the way. The only reason he was willing to do this despite his anxiety was that Mal would probably say something dumb about hygiene if he said no, or act offended to get a stronger reaction out of him.
Why couldn't he just... be normal about this? No matter how he tried, his face got hot again.
"why can't we save water and inflate my head at the same time? those two things aren't mutually exclusive, you know?" mal asked with a slight pout. if mal was honest? this wasn't a game. sure, he was playful and loved to tease people. but to him, getting someone's hopes up like this just to dash them? that would be a sick game. and one that he wasn't particularly interested in partaking in. mal, if anything, believes in honesty when it comes to people's emotions.
mal followed after the other man and grinned when he said showers was this way. "thanks," he says when the other offered him some space. he shoved his own bag inside before nodding his head. he began disrobing. mal had never been shy about his body. he knew it was beautifully toned with just the right amount of fat in the right places in mal's opinion. whether the other noticed that he was nude as he walked behind jun or not, he didn't care. he simply followed after the other and made it known either way once they got to the shower area.
he walked around the other man, giving him quite the view of his back and ass as he did so, before making his way to the shower. "oh, sorry," he flashed the other a grin. "i'm just super eager for a shower. get myself nice and clean... and maybe a little dirty again." he jests with a smile as he makes a show of reaching forward to turn the knob on, a smirk on his face and a lustful glint in his eyes as he looked at june.
"hot or cold?" he asked. "the water, of course."

Mickey listens to all of it without interrupting, letting the pauses stretch out a little longer than usual as he reels in his own impulse to fill the silence, because it's clear Toma's still reading him for a reaction and he doesn't want to rush past anything that mattered. Nor did he want to come off as rude when the other was clearly in need of a listening ear. When Toma mentions the whole boy band thing, he can't help the small huff of a laugh, mostly at the absurdity of it, pop idol turned apocalypse cook, but he reins it in fast when Toma mentions the depression, letting his face settle into something quieter and more attentive instead. "Hey," he says, voice falling a few notches softer than he usually allows, "that's not nothing. Any of it. The band thing, the depression, not knowing about your guys, that's a lot to be carrying around and still function, let alone cook three meals a day for a mall full of strangers." He doesn't reach for a joke to smooth it over, just lets it sit there acknowledged, because he figures Toma's had enough people either brush past that kind of thing or make it weird, and he'd rather do neither.
"For what it's worth," Mickey continues, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees, "you don't gotta hold a gun to pull your weight here. Feeding people, keeping the inventory straight, that's not some fallback job, man, that's the actual job. Half this place would fall apart in a week without someone doing exactly what you're doing." He gestures vaguely with his fork toward Toma's plate, thinking silently on how fast the collapse of their micro-society would come. "And for the record, I'd take a guy who can make a decent meal out of canned beans and mystery meat over another trigger-happy scavenger any day of the week. Skills is skills dude." He knocks his knuckles once against the table, but he doesn't stand up yet, like the conversation's yanked something loose in him he wasn't planning on saying out loud. Human connection was a strange thing, especially in these times.
"Can I tell you something kinda stupid?" Mickey says instead, rubbing the back of his neck, eyes somewhere off to the side rather than on Toma. "I do the whole," he waves a hand at himself, at the easy grin and the deflecting, "act like nothing gets to me thing. Like I don't care what people think, don't care if I screw up, whatever, brush it off. But I do care. I lay awake plenty of nights running through every dumb thing I've said or done, wondering how bad people think I am." He chuckles a short laugh, but it doesn't reach his eyes the way it usually does. "And honest truth, I know I'm kind of a fuck-up. Always have been, probably always will be a little. I'm not gonna sit here and pretend otherwise. But I'm trying, you know? Every day I'm trying to be a little less of one." He shrugs, like he's already regretting saying that much, and finally pushes up to stand, gathering his plate like it's something to do with his hands. "So yeah, I'll come find you. Food court or the storeroom, doesn't matter. Might even let you show me how to properly cut things without stabbing my own fingers, since apparently that's not obvious to me either."
toma is used to people simply brushing past it. after all, how can they relate? the majority of people are dealing with a apocalypse inside of a town, or at least a country, that they are quite familiar with. with a language they are familiar with. and most people with jobs that could be useful in some type of survival circumstance. and toma? well... he cooks. and tries to be an ear for people when they need it. so maybe that was why he was surprised when there wasn't a joke. or that someone acknowledged and validated his feelings. and toma was surprised at how relieved he felt that someone at least entertained the idea. "thanks. for not immediately writing them off, i mean." toma says softly and offers the other a kind smile. "most people kind of just laugh it off or do something to move the conversation along."
heat floods toma's face when the other compliments his cooking and tells him that it's not as useless of a skill. and that he would prefer someone with it. toma wasn't quite sure if he believed it, but it was still nice to hear someone say it. he smiles gently and nods. "you say that now. but if we get attacked? the only weapon i'm experienced with is a frying pan." he says lightly with a chuckle. god, he really hopes that the day never comes where the mall is jepordized. because honestly? toma's going to be more of an anchor than anything then. "but thank you. you're a reall sweet guy, you know?"
hearing the other man's final words was a bit of a surprise though. it was surprising, and a little comforting, to hear that someone like him also had those insecurities. "social anxiety can be a bitch like that. if i don't feel like i said everything perfect, i'll do the same thing. replay the conversation over and over. will probably do that tonight about ours." he admits with a smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes because there was a hint of truth to it. still, as he watches the other man stand? toma nods his head. "never hurts to have a few extra hands." this time toma's smile does actually meet his eyes. "and thank you. for everything."
The booth he'd claimed was sticky in a way he'd stopped trying to identify. The vinyl seat had cracked sometime in what he guessed was the mid-nineties and never been replaced, just covered in layers of accumulated something until the split didn't matter anymore. Across from him, untouched, sat a plastic cup of flat cherry soda the color of a traffic flare. Someone had set it there. He didn't remember accepting it. Petey Possum's Fun Zone. The sign above the stage still had most of its bulbs, which was more than Rae could say for the rest of the city. The words flashed in a chasing pattern: Fun Zone, Fun Zone, Fun Zone — reflected in the grease-dark windows that looked out onto the corridor beyond. The lights ran on some timer that had never been updated, cycling cheerfully through every color of a sunset that didn't know it was the last one.
The music was the worst part. Not bad music, exactly. Just relentless, loud. Around him, the party happened. People laughed actual laughter, not the hollow kind. Receipts of orange tickets spilling out like a wound. A group near the ball pit were three or four drinks into whatever they'd pre-gamed, and they were doing fine, they were doing great, because apparently this was fine. Apparently this was a thing you could just do. Slide into a booth at a dead clown restaurant in the husk of a shopping center while everything went to shit. Rae picked up the cherry soda. Put it down. Someone was standing at the edge of the table. And then they weren't standing. They folded themselves into the seat across from him with the particular ease of someone who had decided, without asking, that this was where they were going to be. The booth creaked. Rae looked away from the clock he had been staring at. "I find this place disturbing."

if he was being honest, jeremy didn't like places like this. places where people could forget what the world was like outside. because at the end of the day? it doesn't change the fact that this place will never be as packed (at least of living people) as it was before the dead started to rise. it can't hide the fact that unless a vaccine and antidote gets created, they're all going to have that problem of not staying dead. still... as much as jeremy didn't like it? he supposed he understood why people came here. because some times people needed a break. a illusion. they needed a distraction from how shitty their world is now.
and jeremy supposes he needed it to, which was why he was here.
jeremy took a seat in one of the booths, and heard the other man across from him speak. he snorted and shook his head. "most people find this place great." jeremy says, deciding not to mention that he disagreed with those people. maybe it's because his job is to see the death and consequences that can happen, but like he said. sometimes people needed illusions. "most people are also idiots though, i suppose."
"Just a slice or two. I try not to eat too many slices. All them carbs and my abs'll disappear." He responds to Alex, priding himself on his physique. Together the pair looked like they had escaped from a frat house before the end of the world. Chad was highly invested in the man's mysterious backstory. Having discovered Alex he had made it his mission to help the man uncover his vagrant memories. "That sounds like a huge pain. I'd be so mad if I couldn't remember my favorite movie or music. Or my parents." He also shrugs, not wanting to make Alex's issue about himself. "Were you a Double 007 sorta of guy before hitting your head? Because I've seen you do some crazy acrobatic shit. That requires some serious training."
alex raises an eyebrow before grinning. "bro, we literally live in a sports store. just work off the carbs!" alex says with a grin and a shake of his head. his floppy, blonde hair bouncing as he did so. hearing the other man's question, he hummed as he thought about it. "what i said earlier? that applies to it. when i'm in danger, my body just kind of... moves before my brain does? i barely even recognize what i'm doing half of the time." he admits with a shrug of his shoulders. "but hey, it keeps me alive and can sometimes help the others. so i'm not going to complain about it honestly."
@medichastings
it wasn't very often that jeremy found himself socializing with another medic. it feels like they're usually all trying to rush around and make sure people still have all of their limbs. but jeremy stopped by to get some pizza before hopefully sneaking out of the mall, and he ran into michael. jeremy smirked as he nodded at the other man. "how's it going? has your days been as intense as mine?" he tried to joke. he was still trying to get used to being around so many people at once, but he thought he was doing pretty good all things considering.
food court, 7:30 pm, @staticandstitches.
bread broken, shared laughter, stories old and new whispered underneath flickering fluorescent lights ⎯ it was times like these that the end of the world didn't quite feel real. not forgotten, because he could never forget what happened, but like some distant dream laid nestled in the back of his mind, waiting for him to slip back under. dinner service was in full swing, made obvious in how kitchen staff are filling their own plates with fare and joining the others. he doesn't do the same, having elected to eat earlier in the silence of his own room but he let's the ambiance wash over him all the same, allows it to give him something reminiscent of comfort. empty bowl and plate are clutched between large hands and he steps into the kitchen, it's silly but even now he still washes his own dishes. it's then that he sees them, toma, his mind supplies. kid too sweet for his own fucking good. “ you not eating with everything else? ”
toma was exhausted. after helping out in the kitchen all day, he was ready for a bit of a break. he watched as the last of the dinner crew left the kitchen and decided to make himself a small plate. for a moment he considered joining the crowded area before deciding that eating in here was probably for the best. toma poking around at his food and ate a few bites before the other man walked in. toma's eyes looking at him for a moment before the name Russell came to mind. hearing his question, toma softly shook his head. "maybe if it dies down a bit. large group settings are... not necessarily my cup of tea, i think is how the saying goes." japanese was toma's first language, and korean was his second. english was his third, and being surrounded by so many voices speaking it can sometimes feel overwhelming.

"there's no way you have a face like that and you don't know how to dress," he responded, shaking his head. "what did you do before all this crap happened?" he asked, lowering the sweater and sitting down on a nearby bench.
"thanks, man. i prefer sweaters, so i was looking for something decent." he shrugged, having gotten his last sweater covered in blood during a mission.
toma lets out a chuckle and shrugs his shoulders. "i had stylists for my clothes. i can do make up to enhance my face and what not. but i'm not exactly a professional stylist." toma says with a shrug of his shoulders and a small smile. "i was a k-pop idol. unfortunately got seperated from my group when we were doing a tour in america when we were trying to make the transition to a global boy group." toma explains with a soft sigh.
"i'm not the biggest fan of wearing sweaters. i tend to run hot so i prefer to be cool or cold." toma admits. "but i do feel like it suits you aesthetically." toma says with a smile as he looks up and down.
" i wish i could make promises, " he admitted with an apologetic grin. "I don't go out of my way to risk my safety... but it seems to happen," he admitted with a casual shrug.
matteo winced as soon as he moved his arm. " well, you have anything i could get for pain? nothing crazy, i know we need to be careful," he explained, not wanting to seem desperate. he was genuinely in pain, but his tolerance was high, so he could do without unless this medic was feeling generous.
jeremy couldn't help but let out a snort as he heard the other man's words. "well then. if it gets infected? that's on you mister." jeremy playfully scolded with a shake of his head.
jeremy nodded his head and made his way towards the medicine cabinet. getting a syringe and drawing some medicine into it. "come by once a day and i should be able to give you a small dose that will make the pain more manageable until you get healed up." jeremy says as he moves towards the other man's arm. making sure to go to the other one so he didn't cause more harm on his wound. he carefully went about numbing the area.
"how did you even get this?" he asked the other man curiously.
klaus chuckled, recognizing that any man who was friendly with animals was a man worth his salt. "an honorable title indeed," he added jokingly. chief was quick to take the treat, rubbing against mal's leg before returning to klaus' side.
"the way i see it, both can be true," he admitted. klaus never considered himself a good flirt, but he had a subtle way of expressing himself that he was grateful to anyone who picked up on it.
mal nods his head with a chuckle and made sure to pat the dog's head briefly as he happily took the treat before watching as it made it's way to kalus' side. "how long have you had him?" mal asked curiously as he looked back at klaus.
he grinned as he heard the other man flirt. "well that's definitely nice to know. i'll always take compliments, especially from a pretty thing like you darling." mal says with a nod of his head and a wink.
"Huh? What? Yes. I am ok." Tucker looked up from the little notebook he had in his hand, the stub of a pencil scratching away at the paper writing down the math he was working on. Just things he had jotted down from the textbooks in his bookstore home. Something to do when he got bored. "I was just. Doing stuff." he said with a shrug showing off his work to the other though he highly doubted the other would understand it. "You're pretty."
alex chuckles when the other seemed to come back down to earth and looked up away from the notebook in his hand. alex didn't really understand what he was doing in the notebook when he took a quick glance at it. the symbols were familiar, but to him? it just looked like a bunch of nonsense. alex's pale cheeks slightly lit up when the other complimented him, and he couldn't help the big grin that came onto his face. "straight to flattery, huh?" he asked with a chuckle. "your quite pretty yourself."
Mal was...attractive, there was no use in denying that. None of them, outside maybe a few of the council members, had private showers, so it wasn't like Jun hadn't seen Mal naked before. The polite thing would be to turn away. Not stare. But now... Jun couldn't help it.
Maybe it was exhaustion or hunger or stress, or all of that mixed with his stupid, stupid crush. Although he would never admit to it, he had caught a few quick glimpses of Mal in passing. Maybe... more than glimpses, if he was being honest. He could keep his eyes on the wall or the ceiling when he was in the barracks back on the base, but now? They weren't even near the showers yet, and Mal had called his bluff.
Jun placed his palm on Mal's shoulder before giving it a quick shove. "You seem excited. Over a shower? Or were you thinking about something else?" His voice came out more strained than he wanted. His own cheeks felt like they were on fire.
"Stop messing with me." It wasn't as forceful as he would have liked. Too breathless. "If we are sharing, no stupid jokes."
Mal's shoulder had felt...firm. Warm. He had seen the other shirtless, doing some workout, he was certain. But feeling that muscle underneath his hand was something different. No doubt, this had to be some weird power trip for Mal. Nothing else. Jun was the shy one, the one who got easily flustered when someone tried to flirt with him. Others said he was handsome, but unless they were looking to tease him, or Jun was without his clothes for whatever reason, most people just ignored him and pretended he didn't exist.
That did have its advantages, he wouldn't lie.
"We're almost back. Did you want to drop off your stuff first, or..."
mal knew he was attractive. most people think that people who own ranches have to be these overly muscular guys who barely know two plus two. but mal? mal definitely wasn't that. he was a pretty boy with a nice combination of muscle thrown into the prettiness.
he grunted as the other softly shoved him. "oh wow. didn't realize you were so eager to see me in the showers." he taunted playfully with a smirk and a wink at the other man's direction. his tone having amuseent practically dripping from it. "and of course. a shower with a handsome guy like you? of cours i'm going to be super excited and thrilled." mal says with a chuckle. "and who says i was messing with you?"
hearing the other man's inquiry, mal shook his head. "i can have someone else drop it at the place. i think they'd rather we get to the showers asap. some of those germaphobes really get nasty if they know you've been traveling outside of the wall and haven't taken a shower within seconds of getting back." mal says with a dramatic sigh and a shake of his head.

it delighted chad that alex had acclimated to life within the metrocenter. he had been worried that the blond would always be a weird outcaster, but instead he had made friends and was much more social. chad accredited all of this success to himself. "already did, bud. if I eat anymore I might blow up." he clasps a hand on the other boy's broad shoulder, giving it a squeeze. "You wanna hop on some arcade games? I'm...not sure if you ever had the chance to play them before. Since..." He furrows his brow, "I'm trying not to be insensitive here. Do you remember having a childhood at all or is it all a blur?"
there were still many things that alex didn't always understand or get, but he usually managed to understand enough to get by. and when he got mad? alex had a tendency of lashing out. but other than the times of frustration or anger? alex for the most part could be a sweetheart. a naive one, but a sweetheart none the less. "wait, you were eating without me?" he asked with his face frozen in mock betrayal, as if he didn't have his hands on a piece of pizza. hearing the other man ask, alex nodded his head. "yeah, sounds good!" he hops up after wiping his face and hands. hearing the last part, he shakes his head. "i truly don't remember anything before waking up in that house." alex admits with a sigh. "some things i'm sure i did in the past. because my body moves as if it's muscle memory when i'm doing it, even though i have no memory of learning or doing it." he explains with a shrug of his shoulders. "it's a pain."

"don't forget to come back tomorrow night so we can change the gauze," jeremy said. "the last thing we need is a infection." jeremy says and offers a rare smile to his patient who nods their head before running off, likely heading towards the pizza party. jeremy rolls his shoulders and lets out a hum. as much as he loves pizza, large gatherings of people were not necessarily his thing. even before a zombie virus got introduced to the world. jeremy looks longingly at the doors. he wished there was a way for him to sneak out and collect more samples, and maybe he will a little bit later. him and one other medic agreed to be on rotation so that way others could enjoy the party. so when the other relieves him? jeremy figured he could sneak out of the mall and collect even more samples of the virus to see if he can figure anything out.
hearing the door open, jeremy's head poked up and he offered the other man a smile. "hey... elijah, right?" jeremy asked. "how are you doing?" he asked, his eyes automatically searching the other for any injuries as he moved towards him. "anything broken?"
