CARRIE FISHER TWEETS OUT “SPACE BEAR” LOGO!

The working title for Star Wars Episode VIII had already been confirmed, but this adorable logo (tweeted by Carrie Fisher herself!) is the first visual proof!

DID AMAZON.COM SPOIL A MAJOR PLOT ELEMENT OF EPISODE VIII?

Since the stealth debut of Episode VIII Star Wars character “Star Wars Bear,” fans have been speculating as to the nature of his role in the film, currently in production in England.

Is he the titular “Space Bear” referred to in Episode VIII’s top secret “code name”? Is he a hero or a villain, and does his whimsical appearance indicate that he is intended to be serve as “comic relief”?

But now, more details have been revealed via Amazon.com’s toy listings, where Star Wars Bear can be seen dressed up as other well-known Star Wars characters, including Han Solo, Finn, Darth Vader & even R2-D2!

Some are saying that the character of Star Wars Bear may be a “master of disguise” and that the storyline for Episode VIII might involve him pretending to be various characters in order to trick Kylo Ren and/or Luke Skywalker!

Obviously, this is a big reveal, with enormous implications for the franchise, which has often deployed big twists as well as characters in disguise. But with Star Wars Bear, it would seem that Lucasfilm, Disney and director Rian Johnson are intending to take things to a whole new level.

J.J. Abrams has already publicly acknowledged a pang of regret when he read the screenplay for Episode VIII, which may well have had to do with the fact that he never got to direct a scene with Star Wars Bear.

The high prices that these toys are currently selling for on Amazon are an indication that they are already highly sought-after by collectors and fans alike.

A HISTORY OF STAR WARS SNEAK PEEKS!

Star Wars Bear is the latest in a long tradition of “sneak preview” characters to appear as merchandise before making their debut film appearance!

The most famous “early bird” was of course the bounty hunter, Boba Fett, who went on to become a cult favorite. Later, Admiral Ackbar and Nien Nunb were action figures well before anyone knew the pivotal roles they would play in the destruction of the 2nd Death Star.

What role will Star Wars Bear play in Episode VIII: Space Bear?  

Hey, that’s a secret! We’ll have to wait until 2017 to know his role in the Star Wars saga.

STAR WARS BEAR is the first new character to be revealed from Episode VIII.

Available at the Build-A-Bear department of Hamley’s toy store in London (not so very far from where Episode VIII is about to begin principal photography), this continues the Star Wars tradition of previewing significant new characters via merchandise.

Boba Fett was a mail-in action figure before Empire Strikes Back came out, while Admiral Ackbar was similarly revealed prior to Jedi’s release.

The secret code name for Episode VIII is “Space Bear”, which would seem to be a not-so-veiled reference to this major new character, Star Wars Bear (who does appear to be some kind of Space Bear.)
