She nods, tears welling in her hazel eyes. “The demon has not come calling in well over a year,” Winona replied, “and…Father, last summer was the depths of my depravity. I’m–sorry you had to see that. I do not turn my back from God, and I face His judgement fully. But…I have one reservation. There is one person I struggle to forgive.” A tear rolled down her flushed cheek. “I cannot forgive myself for what happened last summer. And–I’m not sure I want to. Because if I do…that means I stop repenting for it. And I fear if I do that, I will not gain His forgiveness…does that make any sense?” She’d clearly put a lot of thought into this. She hoped Father West could provide some guidance. What was she to do?

"But of course." West scoffed, though the tone of distaste was more for drama, rather than legitimate displeasure. "I pray for all on the island, no matter who they are. Or what they are." The priest glanced to the side, not really giving more explanation on what 'what' was, as there was a whole lot of what on the island.

“Yes, Father,” she admits quietly. “Twice daily. Once in the morning, once at night before I go to sleep. I’ve made a practice of counting my blessings. The Lord I believe has…smiled on me. He has given the Pigs and I good soil. He has given us a good harvest. So much so that I make a point of sharing surplus with others that need.” She wrings her hands in front of her nervously. “I know I am not perfect but…I’m trying. I really am.”

You hear that? The priest guy is disappointed in you, but he likes me!

“I wonder if…IVE finally gained Father’s respect. The Good Lord has blessed me with a wonderful harvest and friends. Surely this must be some sort of sign?”

“I’ve not forgotten the sins you’ve committed, but forgiveness was not lost on you. Patience merely... strained. Have you atoned for your sins, child?”
