❝ th-this is ... not even a challenge to a mighty swordswoman! ❞  a bold speech, to be sure, and one that might hold a little more weight if only the mighty swordswoman in question's knees weren't quaking.  march 7th is many things  -  explorer, trailblazer, archer, eater of questionable foods from the fridge  -  but she isn't a coward, damn it!  it just looks like she is because she quivers a tiny bit at every jumpscare and because she's only barely restraining herself from clinging onto guinaifen's arm as they make their way down what may be the spookiest hallway she's ever seen in her life.  march has seen monster-infested dreamscape hotels with less spine-tingling horror vibes than this one!

of course, it's supposed to be that way.  the xianzhou luofu's latest event, a celebration of all things scary to mark the anniversary of the first-ever horror immersia many years prior, has pulled out all the stops to deliver a delightfully chilling atmosphere.  most have taken it as an opportunity to don costumes and exchange spooky tales, but it was the haunted house advertisement that drew these particular festival-goers into its clutches.  an old manor house serves as home to the spectacle, promising a thrill like no other and the opportunity to experience the classic chase scenes of a good old horror!  it had sounded like a grand adventure on paper  -  an opportunity to hang out with guinaifen, during which they'd show off what seasoned horror pros they are by striding directly through this house without a single flinch!  ah, what a far-off dream that feels like now.  march's dignity scattered to the winds the instant the door creaked shut behind them and she let out a squeak loud enough to echo off the peeling-painted walls. 

and now, here they are.  barely a few feet down the first hallway, ears pricked and alert for those distant sounds of footsteps and eerie sighs.  the atmosphere is oppressive, like it might steal the air out of one's lungs.  everything smells like dust and rot.

march wishes they'd gone to get snacks instead of this.

❝ d-don't worry.  i can totally lead us through this.  unless you wanna take the lead!  you're the more experienced in these sorts of things, after all.  ghost-hunting and all that. ❞  there's a nervous edge to her giggle, a sound that cuts off mid-breath as march's gaze darts off toward the clustered shadows within the open room they're about to pass by.  the door creaks ominously on its hinges.  oh, she's seen enough spooky movies to know how this one goes!  there's so obviously some actor waiting inside to give them a fright.  march narrows her eyes  -

and the jumpscare comes from above, a hidden speaker producing a sudden sound like the cackle of a witch.  

march shrieks.  there's no better word for it.  she shrieks and clutches guinaifen's arm for comfort, squeezed against her side, and in the moments that follow she begins to giggle as if she can't decide whether to be terrified or entertained.
