My last day of classes is May 4th. I have to say, this was the greatest and wildest time of my life so far. I’ve changed so much and time flew by so fast. I guess I will be giving advice to anyone who needs it through this quick little post.

1. It’s okay to fail sometimes.

My first semester, I passed my math class with a D. I was devastated. Even though it wasn’t completely failing, I couldn’t move up to the next class. I looked back on that class and realized I didn’t try hard enough and study hard enough. Math has always been a “blegh” subject for me, so I always pushed it back as the last thing I would do in my study plan. Beating yourself won’t make the situation better. Accept the fail and turn it into an opportunity to learn how to not make the same mistake again!

2. Be respectful to your professors and be friends with them.

Make sure your professor knows who you are. Go to their office hours and participate in class. Show that you actually care. You don’t have to be a teacher pet, but make sure you are respectful and give off a good impression. They are more likely to be merciful and the end of the semester and boost your grade up a few points if it’s needed.

3. Please get sleep

THE LAST THING YOU NEED IN COLLEGE IS A CRAPPY SLEEP PATTERN. If you take naps, keep them under 45 minutes and don’t take naps after 6 PM. Sleeping for 2-4 hours isn’t a nap, okay? Don’t let yourself lose that much productivity time. TRY to get at least five hours of sleep.

4. Plan your studying and cut it into time chunks.

My study sessions were a lot more productive when I planned ahead what I was going to study. Going off a whim made me feel like I wasn’t getting anything done. I always felt like there was something more important I needed to be studying. Sit down the day before and think about what you need to retain the most and what you can do without a little longer. What test/ assignments are due soon? Plan your studying around priorities. Try to cut the time into 45 minutes for each subject, or maybe an hour depending on how much time you feel like you need, but NEVER MORE THAN THAT. Give your brain a 10-minute break between sessions so everything can marinate. Then keep going!

5. Spend your time wisely

IT’S AMAZING HOW MUCH WORK GETS DONE WHEN YOU TURN YOUR PHONE OFF. Time is vital in college. Even when I’m eating or using the bathroom, I feel like I’m wasting time. (Which is weird. Don’t do that.) Spend every minute wisely, because all of it counts. ALL OF IT. Of course, you should take breaks and spend time with your family. Watch TV and play around on Youtube! Just keep it short on your study days, you know?
