You were the only one in Nikki’s life beside the three Crüe boys who knew about his childhood in depth. The dark, empty look in his eyes cut right through your heart each time he revealed a new piece of his broken childhood. Although you had to force it out of him sometimes, you were glad you knew about his past.
And even though he rarely had them, nightmares would cause Nikki to stir and mumble in his sleep, occasionally jolting him awake. At first, they were rare with just a few twitches here and there, but recently you’d noticed he would talk in his sleep and move around the bed more. The blankets would be covering his face as if he were trying to hide, but usually with one touch of your palm, he’d calm down.
You were sound asleep next to him when all of a sudden you felt him shudder beside you. His arms were locked around the pillow all while hot tears ran down his cheeks.
“Nikki?” You sat up quickly and placed a hand on his shoulder. “Nikki, babe.”
He jerked awake, eyes wide, sweat beading his forehead. After scanning the room with a hard look, his face finally softened, but the tears continued to flow. “This is pathetic.”
“Another nightmare?” You sighed, brushing his hair away from his face. He nodded, drawing his lip between his teeth. “What was it about this time?”
Biting his lip, he turned his head to the side. Nikki didn’t handle embarrassment very well. “Remember when I told you the story of when I cut my arm?” Nikki blew out a breath. “Well I wanted to get my mom’s attention, scare her a little bit. But in the dream she didn’t flinch. So I kept cutting my arm, screaming and crying, and she just…let me.”
Wrapping Nikki in your arms, you pulled him close to your chest, ignoring the tears soaking your pajama shirt. As nights went on, the nightmares became more graphic, vulgar. “She can’t hurt you now, Nikki. You’re with me, you’re safe.”
“I don’t want to be weak in front of you,” he sobbed. He just wanted the nightmares to stop. Nikki hadn’t had a full night sleep in four days. “I’m supposed to be strong.”
Your heart squeezed in your chest. God, there was no person you hated more on Earth than Nikki’s mother for constantly abandoning and ignoring her son. If only she knew how much her neglect affected him.
“You are the strongest fucking man I know, Nikki Sixx.” You dusted kisses along his cheeks, occasionally rubbing his back to soothe him. Nikki had been to hell and back. “You don’t have to be so tough all the time.”
He stopped crying after a while. Once you saw he had calmed down, you fetched him a glass of water and placed it by his side of the bed. After taking a few small sips, Nikki looked at you gratefully. “How’d I get so lucky with you, hm? What’d I do to deserve you?” Nikki pulled you back down on the bed, bringing his arm around your waist, pulling you to his chest as he kissed by your ear.
“Stop saying that,” you grinned, letting your eyes flutter shut. “You’ve always deserved to be loved, Nikki. I’m just blessed I get to be the one who loves you forever.”
