Stemming from the imagination of the amazing Thai artist Aenaluck, this new addition to our Red Keep series of illustrations featuring the Hound doesn’t depict any specific scene but does draw from the ASOIAF books for inspiration to represent the bond between man and horse, and is based on three textual scenes in particular. Sandor’s attitude towards Stranger during the bread riots comes first, when he braved going back to face the fires to rescue his warhorse, which speaks of how much it means to him. Arya comments on Stranger becoming “gentle as an old geldling” with Sandor and no one else, mirroring how his own master can become gentle with someone that matters to him whilst both are difficult with the rest, as well as dangerous in battle. All of which also goes to prove how right the words of the Elder Brother were after Stranger had that … difference of opinion with the brothers about the merits of castration for improving tempers, a debate won by the horse, naturally.
