UNORTHODOX: quietly queer

I do not encourage anyone to stay or leave the LDS Church and I regularly talk about problems and issues I have with this church. While I have seen changes by the church and expect there will be more, I never encourage people to hold on and wait, change comes slowly and people need to live their life.

welcome!!!! I've found that the biggest problems for us queer LDS folk are feeling alone, and feeling suspended between our sexual identities and spiritual identities. you need the other members of the queer LDS community!

irl, if you start wearing rainbow anything to church, like a pin or bracelet, you may find that people approach you to talk about queer family members or friends, and you can meet other queer folk and allies that way. you can also go on facebook and search for LGBTQ LDS groups in your state or province or wherever.

For literature, I recommend Toward a Post-Heterosexual Mormon Theology, Queer Mormon Theology: An Introduction, The Book of Queer Mormon Joy, and We're Here, We're Queer: A Proclamation to the World.

This is the third message to me and again it shows a lack of critical thinking or understanding complexity. You state “facts” which are easily disproved with a simple internet search and you exaggerate things to the point of absurdity in order to make the world seem quaintly black or white.

I did you the favor of responding to your previous two messages with respect and explanation, I responded as though you wanted a sincere response despite the tone of the messages. Since you didn’t comprehend the lessons I was sharing and failed to respond to the points I made, I’m assuming your worldview is too brittle to survive nuance and therefore you push away any idea that challenges your simplistic understanding.

Of course it would be my church organizing the first intergalactic travel known to humanity. They are more than organized and wealthy enough to do so.

The only thing inaccurate about this futuristic portrayal is that SOMEONE definitely would have thrown a Kolob joke somewhere in there.

I thought it was funny at the time. But when I think back on it I think she was basically saying "you had a visible sign of not vibing with the system I was afraid of"

That isn’t fair. It isn’t just. But it is reality. If Otto Frank had let this be included in the published version, there’s a large chance the homophobic backlash would have prevented the book from reaching the audience it did and spreading the message it needed to. It was NINETEEN. FORTY. SEVEN. The Holocaust had ended TWO YEARS AGO. The acceptance of LGBT identities was basically nonexistent. Otto Frank made a decision based on the time and place he was living in, about what the world at that time was and wasn’t ready to accept. 

Let me say this as bluntly as I can - I am a bisexual Jewish girl and I would have made the same decision Otto Frank did. Making sure Anne Frank was unambiguously seen as sympathic and heroic was more important. Making sure people weren’t sidetracked from the main issue of the Holocaust was more important. He shouldn’t have had to make that decision, without doubt. Anne Frank’s sexuality (however she would have identified in modern terms) shouldn’t be considered relevant to her status as a hero or a sympathetic victim. But in 1947, it undoubtedly would have been.

Your compliance and silence as well as the compliance and silence of your ancestors is what allowed these schools to open and kill first nations children. The children of MY people.

Dont follow me if you cant reblog this post or the one with sources to your political blog or your most popular blog. Add trigger warnings if you must but if your political blog is only focused on the harms you personally face like being lgbt then you need to see some bigger pictures and stop being afraid of angering your racist mutural or actually saying some shit about racism. If you can reblog some antifa graphics or add blm to your bio to be a surface level ally, you can reblog some sources on the genocide first nations people faced and still face today.

They were CHILDREN.

I’d like to add this photo I took last night in Victoria of the statue of Captain Cook. Though I myself am not indigenous, I 100% agree that these murderers, kidnappers and rapists shouldn’t have huge statues and plaques that decorate them and say how “great” they were.

Here’s another photo of the legislative assembly from yesterday. Later on there were more items, candles and signs at the memorial, as well as a big poster with 1505 painted on it but I didn’t get a picture

People need to see this. Not just quickly glance at the photos and keep on scrolling. They need to see this.

I went to a “Cancel Canada Day” event and burst into tears - not because I was surprised to learn of the unmarked graves (survivors told us they were there. Our government pushed it aside, and we let them), but because seeing all the people gathered in mourning drove it home: They. Were. Children.

This is my country’s legacy - and it’s not history. The last schools closed during my lifetime. My Father went to school with students who lived at the local residential school, after it was changed to a boarding house (read: holding centre) for indigenous youth who went to local schools.
