The absolute audacity (said in the most positive way I can) to sing “de aquí nadie me saca; de aquí yo no me muevo” and have it chorused out by all the different shades OF US.
I’m not even from PR and seeing him plant that flag did something for me 😭

hey i miss tony stark so much h can you draw iron man 1 tony he was so soft
my pleasure, dear anon……
Watched Eternity earlier today and I have a single song lyric that keeps running on loop based on Joan and Larry’s relationship. Mostly about who Larry was to/about his wife when he wasn’t thinking of competition:
No thing defines a man like love that makes him soft, and sentimental, like a stranger in the park
For a few moments, I see YOU.
That film is messy in all the ways that matter, I think?

I adore the placement choices in this scene. The idea of Victor delivering this line while looking into a mirror was so *chef’s kiss*
He finds the creature grotesque because despite his best efforts, the Creature was not made in his image. Just like his father, Victor wanted a clone of himself in mannerisms, ambition and spirit. And just like his father, he got a child who is his own person. And Victor simply can’t cope with that. Just. Like. His. Father.
Do you think this is the young Victor, lonely and afraid and loving his mother deeply, looking out at the Victor he has become and acknowledging this? That in his ambition to best his father, to best GOD, he’s defiled himself that much? That he is no longer gentle, no longer… human?
He made a “wicked and deformed” creature twice. Once, with the aspect of a human but wretchedly broken on this inside. Twice, in his attempt at “fixing” the first, he creates a Creature with the outward appearance of a monster but a far deeper, purer soul.
I saw discourse about Del Toro’s Frankenstein somehow forgiving Victor because he had a bad childhood. As though showing that his father was abusive somehow absolves him of his crimes. Not only towards the Creature but his brother, Elizabeth, his patients, the condemned… quite literally everyone he hurt.
He’s shown in a very uncharitable light from the start. But moreover, Elizabeth blows that out of the water with a very simple line. When Victor tells her that the Creature has no understanding and she says “Yes, but you do.”
And it’s the simplest explanation for an abuser who has themselves been abused. Sure, your child self has no control over what happened to them. But you, the grown up adult version of you who knows what happened to you is wrong, has an understanding to prevent it from happening again. Victor’s father hit him with a switch, yes. But that doesn’t forgive the pain he puts his son thru in the dungeon. Just the very idea of shoving the Creature in a dungeon like that.
