1. How do I participate in this week?
All you have to do is make your posts and tag them with #stargatefemslashweek2026, you can also tag this blog in the post. Anyone can participate, and you can post whatever kind of fanwork you like (gifs, graphics, fanfiction, fanart and crafts, meta/essays, amv/fanvids, playlists, etc), just so long as it’s centred around at least one f/f ship from Stargate! All posts in the tag will be reblogged here unless deemed ‘bad faith’ (see Q12) If your post isn’t reblogged here within a day of posting, shoot through a message with it to let us know!
Please also remember that this is ultimately a community event, and as such we should be supporting each other! We highly encourage that we all support each others’ creations through engagement such as reblogs, replies, asks, etc.
2. When can I post?
The dates and corresponding prompts are there as guidelines, not as strict rules. If you can post your work on the day it says on the list that’s great, but if you finish a little later, that is totally fine! You also don’t have to participate every day if you don’t want to/can’t, this is a fun event for fans, not a work deadline!
3. Is there a minimum word count/vid length/gif number/etc? What about a maximum?
There’s no min or max beyond what you yourself want to make or what the website would allow you to post (e.g. tumblr having the 30 file limit), just wanna post a drabble? That’s completely fine! If you’re really keen you could write a novel. A 20 second fanvid is as welcome as a 5 minute one, a few doodles to a finalised painting, all is okay.
We’ll give some recommendations here if you’re someone who prefers a specific goal to hit, based on what I think could be achievable but still substantial, but remember there’s no pressure:
For gifsets & graphics: At least two gifs/images.
For art: At least one piece, whatever medium that might be.
For fic: Min 300 words, max 10k (unless part of an ongoing work)
For meta/essays/analysis: Use the rule of thumb that your analysis should be twice as long as what you’re quoting, e.g. you want to write about a two sentence quote? Try to make your own analysis at least four sentences. A 30 second scene? Aim for something that would take at least a minute to read aloud, etc.
For fanvids/amvs: At least 15 seconds.
4. Note on fanfiction posting etiquette (on tumblr):
Please put your fic under a readmore if you’re posting the entire thing on tumblr, it makes it easier for everyone to navigate that way.
5. Note about tagging etiquette:
Please tag any flashing lights in gifs/vids/etc so that epileptics and others sensitive to flashing lights can browse safely, and also tag NSFW content (by which I mean smutty fanfic or art, tumblr sometimes labels completely benign posts as 'mature’ so use your own judgement but images of, say, Teyla in a crop top is not an issue), they’ll both be tagged as such when reblogged here regardless, but let’s be kind to each other from the start.
As a side note on accessibility here, we’d like to encourage everyone to add alt text image descriptions where they can — if you have questions about IDs we’ll try and answer or point you in the right direction. It’s not a requirement but it would be nice to make sure this week can be enjoyed by as many people as possible.
6. Why are there three prompts? Do I have to do them all? How do I know what others will be making?
We’ve provided three prompts in order to ensure some variety for the different types of not just fanwork but people participating, we’re all inspired by different things so we wanted this to be as accessible as possible. You can use one, some, all, or even none of the prompts, you could mix and match if something catches your eye or make your own if that suits you better, the prompts are a guideline but so long as you are creating fanwork for a Stargate femslash ship you’re all good!
7. Can I make physical art rather than digital?
Of course! All art is welcomed, so long as it’s made by you!
8. Can I cross-post with another platform such as AO3?
Absolutely, and we encourage this! There is an AO3 collection that will open up when the event starts where you can add your works. However make sure you also make a post here on tumblr about it so it can be seen and reblogged here.
9. Can I crosspost with other events/challenges?
Yes, if the work you created fits both challenges and they run at the same time you can crosspost with other challenges and events.
10. What kind of ships are permitted?
All ships between two (or more) women from any Stargate series are permitted. Polyships including men are allowed as long as the work still focuses on the relationship/dynamic between the women.
11. Are crossovers allowed?
Yes, crossovers with other franchises are allowed, as long as one of the characters within the ship is from a Stargate series. We also welcome works with OCs.
12. What do you mean by 'bad faith’?
Works will be considered bad faith if they obviously deviate from the purpose of this fan week, that being to celebrate femslash ships, for example a fic features several ships, one of them being f/f but in the fic they actually feature only in the background will be considered bad faith.Â
13. Can I use AI for my works?
We shouldn’t have to say this but no, the use of AI when creating fanworks for this event is not permitted.
14. Will you run this week again?
If there’s enough interest absolutely! We’ll have to see how it goes for now but if enough people are interested we're totally open to running it again! You guys will have to let us know what you want though!
