The camerawork was incredible. The set-up of suspense and foreshadowing was masterful (but yeah the first scene with the dog was hard. And they kill it 3 times in the movie).

Gore was through the roof, though while previous ED films was mostly gallons of blood and gristly lumps of flesh, this one had much more organ play. The ear stuff did make me squirm a bit.

The post-credit scene wasn't really worth all the hype (they cut it short on preview screenings so people wouldn't spoil it).

I did spoil my evening some. I noticed these small claw machines with little Godzilla plushies the last time I visited. I thought I would try my luck, they're small so surely they wouldn't rig the machine...

First of all, all of the signs are lies. You have to buy tokens from a kiosk, and it says $1 per token.. But the screen offers, at the minimum, 5 tokens for $6. And the claw machines have signs that say 2 plays per token... But the screen on the machine says 1 token 1 play.

To make it worst, the Godzilla machine wouldn't take my tokens. It kept spitting them out. I asked an associate, but they didn't have a clue (they don't manage the machines, another company does) and suggested I try a different one. But I was only interested in the Godzilla one.

After dozens of attempts, I did manage to get the machine to eat 3 of the tokens. But the first two tries it didn't even attempt to grab anything, and the third try missed. So even at $1.20 per play for a tiny prize, it's still rigged to only grab some of the times while requiring some skill at timing and positioning.

I couldn't get it to take my last two tokens, and left them there on the machine to save someone else from being another sucker.

While The Monarch Files just released this week (in fact I just finished flipping through my copy), Insight Editions is already releasing yet another tie-in book, this time a beastiary. Due next March tentatively, ideally to coincide with Supernova.

Interesting that the leaked advert says 12 playable characters (as was on the Xbox version), but Mothra and Mechagodzilla '74 were not in the original game. Which means at least two from the original roster will be absent.

Back from Masters of the Universe, and Travis Knight only proves that he needs to be the James Gunn of 80's revivals.

Those hoping that this would be a serious take in MOTU will be disappointed. It's serious when it needs to be, but that's quite rare in a film with characters named Mekaneck and Goat Man. This is a film with two audiences in mind - old school fans who are quite aware that the cartoon is goofy, and those only familiar with the meme culture. And they do fit in almost every He-Man meme (even the inappropriate ones). Funny enough, there was a trailer attached for the upcoming Street Fighter which also used "What's Up".

But the movie has meaning too. The original cartoon and toys were so hyper masculine yet were always about good morals and friendship. This film carries that. We've got big strong men hugging, discussing feelings, and dealing with conflict using words. And so so much gay innuendo. Big shiny sword. Mm.

I honestly was hoping Jared Leto playing Skeletor wouldn't be so apparent since it's a CGI character, but no, the Leto mannerisms were very apparent. It was like they removed the flesh from his face. But he wasn't bad in the role. Not quite the old cartoon version but very playful. He called them butt worms and piss ants. What more do you want?

Notable eater eggs include Shogun Warriors and a song from The Killers that fits this movie perfectly.

Not many people at this screening. No kids. Shocked that this theater was doing more screenings for Digital Circus than anything else (thought about seeing it, but I'll wait two weeks).

I wanted the Skeletor popcorn head and the cup, which was exactly what they had. I didn't see the big sword cup or the Castle Greyskull vessel but those sounded expensive.

Need to bring change with me next time, I saw little Godzilla plushies in the claw machine.

I'm not sure if this is AI, as the guy who made it has been pumping out these crappy animated films before AI animation was a thing (the Bigfoot vs Megalodon trilogy, for example). But it sadly does have a real distributor.
