During conception, Shihua's mother swallowed a leaf from the Ambrosial Arbor (provided by a member of the Sanctus Medicus) which led to her execution shortly after Shihua was born. Her mother's digestion of the Plaguemark granted Shihua her (formerly) nine tails, an enhanced regeneration rate and extended lifespan. After her mother's imprisonment and death, Shihua's father remarried and had a child with another woman, Jiaoqiu. Both are splitting image of their father, with their pink, curly hair and sharp eyes.

After an attack perpetrated by the Borisins, Shihua lost one of her tails and fled to Epsilon. There, she met a member of the Masked Fools and became part of the faction. She spent a good chunk of her life on Epsilon-XIII, becoming a popular figure within the ranks of the Masked Fool thanks to her stage-born aptitude. Due to various circumstances, it was also during this period that she (accidentally) eliminated a former Lord Ravager.

Following the disposal of said Lord Ravager, Shihua sneaked aboard a traveling fleet returning to the Xianzhou Alliance, in hopes of reconnecting with her brother. However, her illiteracy led to a mistake which caused her to land on the Xianzhou Luofu instead of the Xianzhou Yaoqing. Upon realizing she had landed on the wrong flagship, Shihua had a singular moment to recollect her thoughts before being spotted by the Cloud Knights, who, upon spotting her conspicous eight-tailed form, began chasing after Shihua, now assumed Sanctus Medicus member. It was in a dark backalley where she was seeking shelter during the chase that she met a woman who bestowed upon her a anklet which could generate long-lasting optical illusions.
