It kind of saddens me that people have come to associate high notes = top tier vocalist, fast speed = untouchable rapper, and complex dance moves and choreo = world class dancer. While these are great traits and they really are something to look and hear, they are not the only things that determine an idol’s skill. So many talented idols get overlooked at because they don’t do these things when in fact they are just as talented and maybe even more so than those who can do these. Also high notes can strain a lot of voices and even talented idols who do this constantly especially without proper technique will damage their vocal chords much more quickly. Sometimes those who hit high notes don’t even hit them right. Fast rapping can mess with the flow and is also not the only indicator of a great rapper. Flow, delivery, tone, word play, lyrics are also important in rapping. And complex choreo and dance can turn out to be messy especially if technique is still shaky. I just wish people understood that there’s a lot of other idols out there who are very talented and shouldn’t be overlooked just because they don’t hit high notes, or rap fast, or do outrageous dance moves.
