Stand By Me confessions

Confession:  I am madly in love with teddy. I wish we could snuggle in the woods and just talk about our messed up families and provide each other comfort and just snuggle a lot.

The book says that it had been six months since Denny's death when the story takes place ("six months hadn't been long enough to put them back together again") and that Denny was 10 years older than Gordie ("Ten years later she got pregnant with me" and "can you see a fourteen-year-old boy finding something to beat up his four-year-old brother about?"). Since the book, as well as the movie, says that Gordie is "twelve going on thirteen" we can assume that he was 12 when Denny died, meaning Denny was around 22. Maybe there's an easier way of finding that (I wasn't sure if Gordie actually said his age directly) but hey, at least we know now!

WAIT! While I was looking for the next answer, I found "Dennis would have been twenty later that week. I'd already picked out a birthday card for him at Dahlie's over in Castle Green". So I should probably delete that paragraph, but I'm too proud of my work - even if it was wrong. Although I do question Stephen King's maths. Maybe there's some way that it would be right, depending on when each of them was born.

As for the Cobras... I'm sorry, but I really don't know. Gordie refers to them as "big kids", so they're most likely teenagers rather than young adults. I always assumed they were around 17 or 18 years old. If it helps, Kiefer Sutherland and Bradley Gregg were 19 when the movie was made (possibly 18 for some scenes, I'm not too sure when production started). We also know that Eyeball was the second eldest child of the Chambers family, and that he dropped out of school in the 10th grade, but it doesn't say when that was.
