Okay Carylers, we’ve got some things to discuss…

Namely, the fact that the freaking tension is finally back, hallelujah! Like omg, I’ve missed this so much!

It’s so funny to me that even after all these years, Daryl still has no idea what to do with himself when Caryl is close to him, bless.

You can practically feel his inner monologue as she cuts his hair. “Where do I look? No, not there. Don’t be weird. It’s just Carol… running her hands through my hair… while her body is two inches away from my face. No. Big. Deal.”

His first coping technique is to focus on petting Dog, but alas, Dog decides to play matchmaker and takes off running, merrily taking Daryl’s composure along as well. Daryl’s hand just hovers in the air for a second as he clenches his fist and drops it, like, “Well, shit, what the hell am I supposed to do with my hands now?!” And that expression as he slumps down to glare after Dog… you can clearly see the betrayal and helplessness on his face 😂😂

^ That is the look of a grown man in crisis, my friends. So naturally, his next tactic is, “Alright, just act like you don’t like it. Yeah, haircuts suck. Boo haircuts!”

That plan is quickly shot to hell when she slides down to his eye level and starts doing this:

Listen, that is not a rearrangement of hair, that was a straight up caress of the face, okay. She’s not even trying to be subtle. I don’t know how long it’s been since she’s seen him, but she’s definitely making up for lost time (speaking of, when the heck are we going be told what went on between them? I want to know what happened because there is obviously a story there and I want it!)

Anyway, as if the whole petting of his face isn’t enough, she pulls this move.

Not once, but twice - you know, in case he missed it the first time (he didn’t). Those lip bites, though! He’s dying.

And oh, the way his eyes finally lock on her and follow her movements, taking in every inch of her face. And the way that this time, when she touches him, he leans back and closes his eyes and straight up savors the touch, at which point she pretty much drops all pretense and just digs in with both hands 😂😂

^ His whole posture is basically screaming, “Yes! Let me be your Aragorn!”

And it’s at this point he finally just surrenders to the intimacy, relaxing physically and opening up emotionally through conversation (while simultaneously letting her know that despite her silence, he knows exactly what she’s thinking and worrying about, and her meaningful look says she knows exactly what he’s thinking, too. No matter how long they’re separated, they always know.) He at last meets her gaze head-on and holds it - though his eyes inevitably dip down to her lips, because he never can help himself.

And, despite the aching seriousness of the conversation, he’s so distracted by the sight of her, he clearly loses his train of thought, and she takes the opportunity to get one last caress in.

And though I love Henry, and I adore his kindhearted plea for Daryl to do as Carol asks, at this moment, I kind of want to kick him just for being there. He looks back at them and Daryl is instantly aware. Carol, reluctantly tearing her gaze from Daryl’s face, looks guiltily over at Henry like she just got caught making plans to rob a bank. And you can just feel it all come crashing to a halt as they’re ripped out of their little world and it’s so sad.
