maybe flambae leaves an impression on robert or maybe he just feels kinda bad about cutting off his fingers, so he starts visiting him in jail - as mecha man, of course. flambae is his usual asshole self at first but then robert just keeps showing up on visitor day. he doesn’t get a lot of visitors so after a while he starts looking forward to seeing him, just for something to do. he begins to open up, telling him about his childhood and what led him on the path to villainy.

robert can’t tell him too much about himself, he’s not about to reveal his identity in a prison full of people he helped put away, but he listens when flambae talks and comes to genuinely enjoy their banter. starts bringing him desserts he mentioned offhand one time, something like milk fudge that he hasn’t had since he was a kid. flambae makes fun of him for it, might even say he doesn’t need his charity, but robert can tell he’s pleased.

by the time he’s let out of jail, they’re both catching feelings. hell, robert might even be the one to pick him up when he’s released, lets him stay with him a few days (he was… less poor then.) he doesn’t make a move, not wanting to take advantage of someone in a vulnerable position, but flambae sure wishes he would.

and then he just. doesn’t leave. he’s trying to reintegrate into society but robert is the only one who doesn’t look at him like he’s still a villain. one day, maybe after an uncomfortable run-in with a former cohort, flambae kisses him over drinks and they just. never stop.

they’re inseparable from that day on. flambae introduces robert to his family - they might not share the exact details of their relationship, but his parents are grateful for this funky little guy who keeps their arsonist son on the straight and narrow. robert encourages flambae to join the phoenix program, and while he would never admit it, doing good is actually pretty satisfying. they have a source of income, so robert gets to stay in a half-decent apartment with an actual bed. flambae is good with beef, even if he still usually refers to him as ‘fat fuck’ - robert can tell it’s affectionate.

and then shroud breaks out of prison. flambae promises robert he’ll take care of it, constantly bending blazer’s ear at work trying to convince her to divert more funds and heroes into tracking him down. he can see it’s eating away at robert: he spends hours every day staring at that cork board on the wall, tracking down goons through seedy alleyways, working on his suit until flambae has to carry him to bed. one night robert slips out from under his arm and the next thing he knows, his phone is blowing up.

robert’s in a coma, an unrecognizable mass of tubes, wires and bandages. there’s only so much the nurses can divulge because they’re not married, but it doesn’t look good. visiting hours take on a whole new meaning, and flambae starts missing more and more work to sit at robert’s bedside. while he sits, he stews. this could have been prevented if sdn had acted sooner, poured more resources into finding shroud, robert would be home with him.

Decided to write an AU for FlamBert and cause a friend asked me to.

This AU is where Flambae is pissed/annoyed with Robert and wants to humiliate and throw him down a peg after Robert keeps criticizing and calling him out on missions. He decides to do this by trying to get Robert to “fall in love” with him and break his heart but instead Flambae ends up being the one to fall for him.

Flambae telling his plan to Prism and her just rolling her eyes saying “good luck trying. If you manage to do it I’ll get drinks on me.”

He decides to constantly “flirt” and “hit on” Robert as Robert thinks it’s just Flambae’s way of “messing around/joking around”. Flambae is agitated by Robert’s obliviousness.

Robert finally agrees to get drinks/dinner with Flambae which Flambae is thrilled knowing he’s about to get Robert “all over him” but soon finds out Robert and him have way more in common.

During the date Flambae realizes how funny Robert is and how Robert is actually fun when not on the clock. They end up drinking too much and going back to Flambae’s place “just as he planned” and sleeping together.

Flambae having a night unlike any he’s ever had wakes up to an empty bed and a note from Robert saying that ‘had to leave to feed Beef and take him for a walk’. Flambae is more pissed that Robert is the one to leave him in bed and that he didn’t get to see Robert.

The next day Flambae is expecting Robert to be all over him to find Robert acting like nothing happened and changed. This leads to Flambae being pissed/hurt that Robert acts normal and not like he had the best sex in his life.

Flambae trying to make moves on Robert in the office and Robert like “listen I had a great night and all but let’s keep it professional in the office. If you want to talk after work that is fine with me.” He doesn’t get how Robert is nonchalant about it.

Robert talking with Waterboy/Phemomaman and Flambae not knowing why he’s so pissed seeing Robert comfort/encourage waterboy and Robert laughing/getting hugged (crushed) by Phenomaman. Flambae confronts both the two asking if they are “fucking Robert” to which both look at him confused.

At the end of the week Flambae waits on Robert to leave the office and ask why he hasn’t talked about what happened to which Robert states “knowing you I thought you just wanted a one night stand.” Flambae gets mad and tells Robert he wants another date and he wants it now which Robert just rolls his eyes and agrees but only if he can let Chase watch Beef for him.

They go to a bar their second date and Flambae tries to act “cool and without a care” around Robert. He even states “I know you must be feeling lucky I agreed to a second date Bob shit” and Robert replying with “You waited for me to get out of work, nearly set the parking lot on fire and demanded a second date.” Flambae just turns away and says “tomato tamato”

They do it again but this time Flambae has Robert in a tight hold and states “you’re not walking on me this time.” Robert ends up having to stay the night confused about the whole thing while Flambae feels his heart fluttering.

Over time Flambae’s plan becomes impossible as he realizes he’s in love with Robert while Robert just thinks they’re friends with benefits. Flambae fell hard and doesn’t know what to do and Prism looks at him like “I told you so”.

I think if I could improve the romance part of the game at all, there are really only three things that need to happen: 1. male and female love interests, how do you put certain characters into that game (Waterboy, Flambae, Phenomaman, ROYD!!) and not expect people to want to romance them man, 2. allow for an explicitly no romance route, not that dumb thing they went with where you Have to pick between the love interests to go on a date with (I mean, come on you could at least make it silly, make the options "movie w invisigal" "dinner with BB" or "home with Beef" cmon dude), and 3. NONE OF THAT CLEAR STORY/GAME FAVORITISM TOWARD ONE LOVE INTEREST OVER THE OTHER, it genuinely grinds my gears that the game actively tries to make you feel bad if you dont pick visi, and the fact that BB gets approximately zero screentime in comparison and there are No repercussions for picking visi over her. WHY give an option (one of the like 3 that affect the game btw) if you're gonna be mad if we dont pick the one that you want us to pick.
