On this very black day, remembering how radiant you were solo onstage. You will never be outshined.
This was a hard day. One of the formative people in my life took his own life. I'm struggling with how to process my feelings.
Today was a good day. Caught no fish, but it didn't matter. I just love being on the lake in my kayak. #kayakfishing #kayaking #fishing #portagelakes #pipesmoking (at Portage Lakes)

I'll miss winter when it's gone.
This is a long read, but really worth it if you're at all interested in the Amish.

I bet this is Norway.
Neah Bay, Wa. 1930s
Back when men were men. Sadly, I wish they hadn't cut those trees down though. I would love to have seen them alive.
Horace Dall (1901-1986) of Luton, England made the inaugural overland journey through the Sprengisandur wilderness of Iceland by bicycle in 1933. Along the way he kept a photo journal of his trials and tribulations with written descriptions on the backs of the photos. One that seems to describe the journey well is,
“The first day gave a taste of the rough stuff - rocks, gullies, sand and swamps, and I quickly realised that my hopes of making thirty percent use of the bicycle were to be disappointed.”
Mr. Dall traveled with no tent, just a sleeping bag to protect him from the elements. For nutrition he carried very simple foods including sucrose and pemmican. His only assistance along the journey came at the very start where he made use of a boat to cross the large river putting him into the wilderness. From there it was a seven day trip, five days of which he saw no one else.
This dude was a stud.
@theradavist perfect photoset, dreams of a trip next year.

Dude should get his camera looked at. Tons of light bleed on his film in this set. I feel bad for him that all these photos of his cool trip are wrecked because of a malfunctioning camera.
Cheers, dear | Manassé Studio, 1932
This seems way too well done to be 90 years ago. Looks like a modern photo made to look old.

Norman Rockwell’s “The Homecoming Marine”, October 13th, 1945.
This one isn't seen often, but is one of my favorites. I've stared at it a long time and imagine what's being said and thought by the people in the painting. Rockwell was a master at putting words into his painting without using letters.
I'm making progress in Battlefield 4 multiplayer. My 20-year-old son is so danged good at any game he picks up, it's rough to be bad at a game for a long time while he blows my door off. BTW, I'm determined to be good at the sniper role. I've always avoided it because I like to be in the thick of things, but it's just chaos in there.
