Just a boat load of Mercury and Sun (and Neptune) because I’m manifesting that Mercury is going to be ok in Vacuo

Can we talk about the fact how Mercury-I’ll-square-up-on-anyone-Black, a person who’s life literally consisted of beatings and other physical violence, has never actually tried to hurt Emerald during their fight (that I still cry about on a daily basis)?

When she first launches at him(at her almost full hand to hand abilities out of anger I assume) he just… Blocks 2 times and dodges. That’s it. He’s never trying to counter and attack back. And when he has the perfect opportunity to do so

He just waits out and grabs her hand. Mercury, a person who can run faster than fucking bullets, an equal to Yang in hand to hand, just casually grabs her hand in a middle of a fight and starts venting.

I feel like the fact that he hasn’t touched her once during this fight (and the entire show) just shows that even though abuse and violence is all he’s ever known, somewhere deep down he realises that abusing people you care about isn’t gonna lead anywhere good (compared to Cinder who fucking slaps Emerald for speaking out). Even when Em just goes all out, he is being somewhat analytical in holding back and not doing anything he’d regret later, which is a perfect example with Emerald, because she later on realises what she’s done AND GOES TO APOLOGIZE TO HIM.

The only 2 times he does actually throws 2 kicks (which are kinda pathetic tbh) is when he says “This is a crutch, this makes you weak”, when talking about his father taking his semblance from him, which I feel like was just out of pure hatred for his father rather than Emerald.

He is an asshole, yes, he can say some dumbass shit, but he has never gone out of his way to hurt her even when she doesn’t hold back. The only reason Em is ever able to punch him as a joke/make fun out of him/etc is because he lets her. If this edgy thot is ever redeemed, it’s gonna be through Emerald.
