Squippy gently leaned on Berry, closing their eyes and sighing in contentment. "Hey, Ravi kept using all these sweet nicknames on me earlier- I didn't know I'd get so flustered."

"He's always been a charmer." she shrugged as she stared off mindlessly into space, but also tried to keep herself awake so she wasn't rude.

"Hah, I guess..." Squippy muttered, reaching her hand out for Berry to hold. "You never use nicknames for me, besides wifey."

"Am I.. supposed to?" She tilted her head, still pretty zoned out, considering she didn't notice her hand.

"I dunno... Your choice." Squippy smiled, gently stroking her cheek.

"Mmh-" her ears twitched and she pulled away out of embarrassment. "Sorry for getting myself killed."

Squippy sighed. She'd be here to comfort Berry, no matter what. "Hey. Look at me."

"No, I'm okay." She mumbled. "The babies are safe and Mother finally came to see me after all this time."

"That's good, but... Are you ok, really?" She asked.

"Why are you asking?" She frowned. "I'm not a baby cub anymore.. physically at least..."

Squippy paused. Then, she leaned closer, kissing Berry's forehead, before wrapping her in a warm embrace. "You don't have to tell me, don't worry. I just want to be here for you."

Berry's face went red immediately. She laid against her, unable to process what was going on before her ears lowered and she fully relaxed. "I'm scared..."

"Shh..." Squippy stroked her curly locks. "It's ok to be scared. I'm here, alright?"

"I hate.. the loud bangs.. Ravi told me they're hunters.. but I wanna take care of these cubs.." she sniffled.

"Shh, it's ok..." Squippy gentle kissed her cheek. "They're gone now. You're safe."

"No! They'll keep coming back, I know it!" She whimpered, squeezing her as she buried her face into her shoulder. "I miss my momma.."

"Hey..." Squippy gentle stroked her cheek. "I'm not leaving. No bang bang. Safe, safe..." She spoke softly. "Rest, my sweet."

"I.." Berry trailed off, but she finally relaxed. She laid against her and closed her eyes hesitantly, before finally calling asleep in her arms, the vines withering away with each soft breath.

"Squippy!!" She ran over, putting her hands on her back as she pat her gently, her tail wagging as her ears lowered. "Squip..!"

"No hurt.." she looked confused, continuing to pat her back. "Bang bang hurt."

"hh..." She sobbed, hugging her shoulders. "Berry, y-you should be with Ravi. Not with me, I... I didn't even help you-"

"Love!!" She hugged her from behind. "Love!! Love!!" She repeated, tears filling her eyes.

"ack--" She choked. "B-berry?"

Berry squeezed her a little tighter as she cried, her claws digging into her form. She didn't mean to hurt her, but she was so desperate. She didn't want to lose her.

"mmgh--" Squippy shifted, despite Berry's claws cutting into her sides. Even though she still felt guilty, she reached out to comfort her. "I'm here, Berry, please..."

"No!!" She yelled, her tail lowering as she held onto her. "Gonna leave?... Please no.."

"I won't leave-" She winced, inky blood dripping from her sides. "I'll stay, I promise."

Berry's claws slowly retracted at that, resorting to her resting against her back as she took deep breaths, trying to calm down.

"Shh, shh... I'm here, ok?"

"Not gonna leave?.." she mumbled, looking up at her as tears shone in her eyes.

Berry smiled at her. Tears spilled over, but it wasn’t out of sadness, she was happy and even more relieved she wasn't going to be abandoned by a person she loved.

Squippy gently shifted into their more humanoid form, hugging Berry gently. "Calm down, I'm here..."

Squippy extended her tentacles, shifting the seaweed to let in more light. "Better?"

Berry nodded, closing her eyes and almost instantly falling asleep. Still had that little quirk to her.
