obsessed!mondo
ts is an au where chimondo is real except mondo is like really obsessed with chihiro (it's also an au of another chimondo au i made & you can find it here)
you can also find the chihiro version
um also they're not together yet ok πΉ
β Mondo never really cared for school. Well, he would tell himself that at least. Even without the influence of Daiya, Mondo naturally felt as though rules had an oppressive & soul-sucking energy to them. Why did he have to listen to some adult when it came at the cost of his freedom and emotions? Not to mention he was never the brightest in his class. What was the point of going when you had teachers breathing down your neck and busy work that made you feel even dumber by the second?
β When Crazy Diamond was first formed Mondo had his very first taste of what it felt like to *live*. He didn't have to exist in one standard box (not like he tried to, but he was still a minor under his mother's house). He could fool around, feel the wind in his hair whenever he'd go riding with the gang, and actually invest himself in his favorite thing: his motorcycle.
β You could tell Mondo he wasn't good at school and he'd probably agree with you, but mechanical work? He was your go-to person if you needed your ride fixed. His expertise was mostly in motorbikes and all that & he had extensive knowledge on all the different kinds. Crazy Diamond was his life and the only place where he could express himself to the fullest extent.
β But even in the gang he still felt like he had the pressure of expectations and this time it wasn't something he could just ignore. With Mondo being Daiya's right hand man and successor, he got a lot of whispers and nasty words behind his back. That he didn't deserve to lead the gang after Daiya, that he could never be as strong as him, that he was pampered from the real duties of a leader... In the eyes of the gang, Mondo was just Daiya's naive, stupid, impulsive little brother. And that stung a lot.
β Everyday was spent trying to prove himself and his strength. He felt like he was always in his brothers shadow and that whatever he did was perceived as a weak & sorry imitation of Daiya. Obviously, this is where his weakness complex kicks in and he has his canon-typical overcompensation of his strength. He fought, got in sticky situations with the police, and did his best at being his brother's right hand man.
β But the jealousy and envy never went away. How come their members saw Daiya as some picture-perfect gang leader while Mondo was seen as some bumbling baby? They both created the gang together and built it from the ground up, so why didn't anyone acknowledge *his* role? He didn't mind not being viewed as a leader, because he truly wasn't, but to be seen as a liability to something he poured his soul into? That hurt a lot
β And so, his relationship with his brother became a one-sided competition. Even though he loved Daiya to death and valued their connection, Mondo couldn't reign in his insecurities. Every little thing Daiya did Mondo tried to do betterβ it was a 50/50 chance that Mondo could actually beat him. Except, there was only one thing he couldn't measure up to no matter how hard he tried.
β The respect & loyalty of the gang. No one would outright mistreat Mondo but all the members sought out Daiya and followed him almost like he was their savior. Mondo could beat Daiya on a motorcycle race, he could outdrink him (if he really tried), he could even fix more bikes than him. But he could never command the attention and submission like Daiya did and that stung deep.
β After Daiya's death & the lies he built to cover it up it only worsened. He lost his other half, and it was all because of his pride. He had finally got what he wantedβ the respect and attention of the gangβ but it came at the cost of losing a part of himself. No one could fill the void Daiya's death made in his heart. Daiya wasn't just his older brother. He was a mentor, a companion, a life-long partner in crime. There was no one else there that could recreate the dynamic he had with him. No one could replace Daiya
β And so once he arrived at Hope's Peak he was very closed off. The death of his brother was very recent (i would say it was two years post event), and being a leader was both fulfilling and draining. Hope's Peak wasn't at the top of his priorities & he didn't try in school anyways since whenever he did it just made him feel dumb when he didn't understand something
β His first year passes by relatively uneventful (because he skipped class so much). It wasn't until he got closer to Chihiro that things started to change. At first he thought Chihiro was a cute and sweet girl. Kind, caring, a little soft-spoken. To Mondo, Chihiro was out of reach for him. Aside from his 10 failed confessions (wow), he viewed Chihiro like a fragile little flower so he felt like he was too rough for him.
β (he thought Chihiro was very cute and did his best to keep his distance... he didn't wanna embarrass himself π). But then they became friends so, like, he was around Chihiro a lot and he loved it! Chihiro was kind and interesting. Chihiro brought a softness in his life that Mondo had rarely come across if you don't count the relationship with his mother.
β When Chihiro finally told his secret to Mondo, Mondo immediately felt threatened. But since this is a non-despair au and there is little emotional stress/danger he kept it in and agreed to help Chihiro. It would've been uncool of him to get mad & refuse Chihiro.
β After finding out Chihiro was actually a guy, Mondo tried pushing down the feelings he developed (hint: it did not work). Helping Chihiro get stronger was fun and their bond deepened every night they spent together training. The idea of helping out someone smaller, weaker, and impressionable made Mondo gain a sense of pride but also nostalgia. He could see himself in Chihiro. He could see Chihiro as his younger self while he took the role of Daiya
β Mondo & Taka's friendship wasn't the same. Yes they called each other "bro" but they were closer to being equals. There wasn't a distinct pupil & mentor dynamic, they were just two guys fooling around.
β Now, in this au, Mondo does not even ATTEMPT to untangle the trauma of Daiya's death nor does he acknowledge his own weakness complex head-on. So when he is put in a position of a mentor role, when Chihiro is the one looking up to him, when their dynamic reminds him a little too much of him and Daiya... it can start to get a bit odd
β Mondo still feels threatened by Chihiro's own mental strength, but he also loves the dynamic they have with each other. He didn't realize it at first but he craved the presence of Chihiro and it got more intense as time went on. He felt the rush of intense envy but also intense attraction everytime he was around Chihiro and it was oddly exhilarating. Whenever Mondo's insecurities flared up, he would just tell himself he's stronger than Chihiro & that the reason why Chihiro was asking him for help in the first place was because Chihiro was weak
β He doesn't outwardly tell Chihiro that he's weak, but it does give him some peace of mind. Also, he loves the feeling of being relied on (and the fact Chihiro seems to hang on every single one of his words... so cute). And like I said, their connection is so deep and intimate & it became that way very quickly after Chihiro decided to trust Mondo. He hadn't had anything like that in years.
β He wouldn't let it go for the world. And as his feelings grew deeper, so did the possessiveness he exhibited. Chihiro was still presenting as a girl for the time being so Mondo got to witness a lot of guys try their luck or just be downright disgusting. As he noticed the attention Chihiro got he became more angry. Why is it that everyone's eyes were on him? Why couldn't Chihiro just be for Mondo & Mondo only? People were trying to step into the sacred space they had built together and it was NOT COOL.
β Typically Mondo would be more angry about the fact these guys were mistreating someone they viewed to be a girl, but that was the least of his concerns. Not only that, Chihiro seemed to prefer hanging around guys rather than girls which made Mondo internally livid. He knew that a guy preferring the company of other guys was normal, but everyone still saw Chihiro as a girl!!! They thought they could make their way into Chihiro's heart (or underneath Chihiro's clothes) and it was NOT THE VIBE π‘π‘π‘
β So his hold on Chihiro became tighter. He would step in the middle whenever Chihiro was talking to another guy. Mondo had gotten into several fights for guys looking at him or making comments he didn't like. He would hover around Chihiro every day, and when he wasn't around Chihiro his thoughts would be filled with him.
β Naturally Chihiro began to feel uncomfortable with it because like, his freedom was gradually being restricted. He couldn't talk to anyone unless Mondo approved and whenever Chihiro talked to someone Mondo didn't want him to talk to Mondo would shut down the interaction. Since Mondo isn't the only person Chihiro relies on (and also because Chihiro wants to become who he wants to be!!), lil bro would reach a breaking point.
β It would be utterly devastating to Chihiro because he trusted Mondo, and Mondo did technically help him, but MAN he felt so suffocated! Also despite everything Mondo was still the one person who knew of Chihiro's true identity. And Mondo was the only person who affirmed who he truly was. If Chihiro lost that he'd be very heartbroken.
β So one night while they were training together Chihiro (firmly) brought up Mondo's actions. Why did he not like him being around other guys? Why didn't he like giving Chihiro his own space and freedom? Why couldn't he talk to whoever he wanted to talk to?
β That line of questioning made Mondo pause. He got quiet for a long while but internally he was raging. And no he wasn't mad at Chihiro's questions (although it did irritate him), he was mad becaue HOW DID HE NOT SEE THAT EVERYONE WANTED TO TAKE CHIHIRO AWAY FROM HIM???
β Obviously that wasn't true, but to Mondo it felt like every single guy wanted to steal Chihiro away from him even though that was anything but true. Mondo couldn't lose what he had with Chihiro. But also... why was Chihiro grilling him in the first place? Why was someone smaller & weaker trying to go against what Mondo believed was right?
β And to no one's surprise Mondo started yelling π: βDon't you see what they want from you?! Don't you see what they could *do* to you??β
β Then Mondo went on a whole rant about how all these people were trying to get in Chihiro's pants or at the very least had ulterior motives with their kindness. He spoke about how they were all stronger than him physically and that he was only trying to protect Chihiro from anything bad. But of course, Chihiro didn't really buy it. Chihiro really did try to understand Mondo's point of view but at the same time it was unrealistic for EVERY SINGLE GUY EVER to want to hurt or manipulate him.
β So Chihiro tried to calmly explain that that was an overexaggeration and even if some did have that intention, he knew how to take care of himself & who to call for if anything went out of hand.
β They had a huge back and forth argument over it. Chihiro expressed how he didn't appreciate Mondo's actions & Mondo was getting even more worked up that Chihiro was defying him. But deep down Mondo was afraid of having someone he cared for deeply leave him again.
β Even if his love was founded in obsession, their friendship had brought him the partnership he was seperated from for *so* long. Mondo wasn't hearing any of it and declared ominously: βNo one can take you away from me, and I'll do every goddamn thing to make sure of it.β
ok im finished now. im happy with how it came out ππ
obsessed!mondo was also fun to write because it was kind of the opposite of chihiro π©· chihiro was more thorough and conniving while mondo was doing it based of his emotions and impulses which i think is perfect for both of them
situationship!chimondo next ππ maybe?
