Underrated Wizard Spells & Why You Should Learn Them [Part 2!]
Contact Other Plane
Contact Other Plane basically letâs you speed-dial a demi-god, the spirit of a long-dead sage, or some other mysterious entity from another plane.
This means a Warlock can potentially contact their Patron, or a Wizard can contact a Devil or Demon or really anyone that isnât currently on the Material PlaneâŚ
If you succeed on not becoming insane from the experience, you can ask the Entity up to five questions.
This is the coolest Warlock Spell, since you can contact your Patron directly and it can create some great roleplaying moments, but Iâve seen it used by Wizards to try and learn info about other Entities like Angels and Demons, and one Wizard even contacted the Spirit of a Long Dead Archmage in an attempt to learn the secrets of creating his own SpellsâŚ
Overall⌠Itâs a pretty neat Spell!
Geas
Have you ever wanted to make friends without the effort?
Well Geas (also known as âQuestâ to some People) is an Enchantment Spell available to Bards, Clerics, Druids, Paladins and Wizards, and it basically letâs you charm a Creature for up to a whole 30 Days!
Thatâs right, this 5th Level Spell letâs you take control of a Monster for a whole 30 Days!
So you can turn that Dragon into the Party Mascot for the Month, or turn that Pit Fiend into everyoneâs favourite talkinâ ânâ walkinâ Creature of Death!
Itâs a great spell to pull out of your pocket in desperate scenarios, since it takes a whole minute to cast, but having a âPet Monsterâ for a Month is a pretty sweet deal.
And as a Note, it doesnât require any Material Components or Concentration from the Caster, so you can cast this multiple times on multiple Creatures, and it just gets better at higher levels, eventually lasting up to a whole year, or even until dispelled!
Passwall
Passwall is a great spell if you need to get into somewhere without raising the alarm, since it creates a passageway just big enough for a Medium Creature to fit through, and since it can be created on wood, plaster or stone, unless the Building is made of metal, you can essentially skip Dungeon Rooms and break into almost any Vault or Archive by just throwing some sesame seeds at a wall and hoping for the bestâŚ
And this passageway can be created on a ceiling, wall or floor, so you can create a hole in the ceiling and lower yourself down Mission Impossible Style, or you can cast this right under an enemyâs feet and watch them fall through the floor like Wile E Coyote!
Mirage Arcane
Mirage Arcane is a 7th Level Illusion that letâs you change the appearance of up to 1 Mile of Land, changing the way it looks, sounds, smells, and even feelsâŚ
Does it effect how the Land tastes? I donât knowâŚ
You can even alter the appearance of structures, or add them in where none exist.
The Illusion includes audible, visual, tactile, and olfactory elements, so it can turn clear ground into difficult terrain (or vice versa).
Itâs basically Minor Illusion, but with an Area of 1 Mile, and that is COOL!
Project Image
First off, I just wanna say that Project Image has a Range of 500 MILES!
Thatâs about 20 Days of Travel in Game TermsâŚ
So if you know the distance between where you are and where your want this illusory duplicate of yourself to be, and itâs less than 20 Days of Travel, this Spell is almost guaranteed to work!
Project Image lasts 1 Day and creates an illusory copy of yourself that lasts for the Duration.
The Copy can appear at any location within range that you have seen before, and you can see through its eyes and hear through its ears as if you were in its space, using your Bonus Action to switch from using its senses to using your own, or back again.
Itâs a fantastic way to check in on people and places without actually going there, and itâs ridiculous range means you can literally check in on other Continents while you and your Party are resting upâŚ
Whirlwind
Remember how âControl Weatherâ used to let you Create Tornadoes?
Well Whirlwind is a 7th Level Spell that can suck up any Medium or smaller Objects that arenât secured to anything and that arenât worn or carried by anyone, as well as suck up any Large or smaller Creatures that fail a Strength Saving Throw.Â
It also deals a pretty nice amount of Damage, with 10d6 Bludgeoning Damage, and letting you literally throw a Large or smaller Creature at least 30 Feet (all the way up to 180 Feet!) in a Random Direction, which could just so happen to be straight up in the air, or all the way over a cliff, into a lava pool, or any natural hazardsâŚ
Itâs a pretty need spell⌠But I still think âCreate Tornadoâ is a cooler NameâŚ
