Sigil for Manannan mac Lir
How and why and symbolism and such….
I started with the three swirls, since that’s the symbol most associated with Him and is generally used as His symbol. The runes added:
Laguz is at the top, it means water, the sea, a source of life and renewal, and to me this symbolises Manannan best.
branching off that is Kenaz; creativity and knowledge, visions and revelations. Things which He brings and inspires in me.
On the left, Ansuz, for communication, messages, and connections to ancestral traditions. Things which I hope for; communication with Him, a connection.
branching off it is the ogham letter Fearn, which has been used and interpreted as meaning safeguarding.
On the right, Algiz, for protection and strength. He seems to me like a protective god; I feel safe with Him.
branching off it is the ogham letter Tinne, meaning strength. I hope that with his protection I will be stronger than I can be alone.
In the centre, at the heart of it all, is Ehwaz; horses and partnership. Since He is the god of horses, this makes sense, and I hope and aim that at the centre of everything we do together is partnership. (Also, it looks like an M, for Manannan….)
